EAU CLAIRE The question came out of the crowd, though it has been a topic of conversation. The answer was quick, but spoke volumes.

At the Eau Claire County Expo Center, Packers president Mark Murphy said former cornerback Al Harris will receive a Super Bowl ring despite being released in November.

Harris was in the midst of an attempt to return to the field from a season-ending left knee injury from November 2009. He began the 2010 season on the physically unable to perform list and returned to practice in October. The team however elected to release Harris as undrafted rookie Sam Shields flourished as the No. 3 corner behind Charles Woodson and Tramon Williams.

Harris was signed by the Dolphins in November but was back on injured reserve in December.

Harris spent eight seasons with the Packers, including 2010. He started every game from 2003-07 before injuries took him off the field in 2008 and 2009. He was a Pro Bowler in 2007 and 2008.

Many hoped Harris would receive a ring due to his contribution to the organization over the years. Packers linebacker Nick Barnett tweeted, wow thats a class act org soon after the Press-Gazette announced Murphys statement.

Murphy went on to say the team is scheduled to receive their rings June 16, but Public Relations said that is a tentative date.

Happy for him, well deserved.

And to think I was scolded when I mentioned such a query.... but for a guy that spent more of the season with the Packers than without.. even albeit on the PUP.. I think it fitting.

Thanks for the Post King.

Good for Al. Although he didn't get onto the field, I'm sure he provided mentoring to the younger players when he was with the Packers during the first half of the season. He probably contributed more than some of the front office people who get rings.

Good for him. Not sure how deserving he is technically, but symbolically I'd have to agree it's a very classy gesture.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Classy move on our part. This is great news. :thumbright:

I've always respected Harris. It's just a shame he wasn't on the sidelines in the SB but we had to do what we had to do. Harris understood this, and took it well.

He was pure class when he left, and didn't take any swipes at the team. I think that played into his getting a ring. The Packers are repaying his class WITH class.
