There's not too many cornerbacks that could have covered Plaxico Burress in the NFC Championship game in '07. Eli Manning was on fire and put balls where only Plaxico could catch them.

I agree with that... they also tried Woodson on Plax after Harris was having so much trouble with him. I think Woodson did a slightly better job but he couldn't cover Plax that day ether. And they then later switched back.

Harris was a bump and run corner and Plax has very long arms and knew how to use them to keep Harris off of him... Harris couldn't get a good bump... or when he did he got out of position... and Plax was faster...

I am glad Al is getting a ring. Like a very few others I would have understood if management didn't give him one. But since he was one the PUP at the beginning of the season he was indeed a member of the team.

When this discussion first came up I was not sure how many rings were given by the NFL to the team. I thought it was 100 and with so many players on the injured list and others signed to take their place I thought the Packers may well have too many people wanting rings and too few available. Not to worry there are plenty for all.

link

The NFL pays for the cost of 150 rings to the winning team, at roughly $5,000 apiece, depending upon the fluctuating cost of gold and diamonds. The winning team can typically present rings to whomever they choose, including usually, but not limited to: players (active roster or injured), coaches, trainers, executives, personnel, and general staff. Some teams have also been known to give rings to former players, despite not having been on the winning roster. Teams can distribute any number of rings, but must pay for any over the 150-ring limit.

another source

Number of Rings

Who receives a Super Bowl ring is determined at several levels. There is the league level and the team level. The NFL itself awards the rings to the team. The number of rings given to each team is approximately 150. The team then is free to distribute the rings to its players and staff members.

Players

Traditionally, all the players on the Super Bowl winning team receive a ring. The team determines if players that are on the injured reserved, physically unable to perform list and practice squad will receive a Super Bowl Ring.

Other Recipients

After giving the Super Bowl rings to the players, the team can then choose who else should receive rings. The coaches on the team commonly receive the rings, as do members of the front office of the team. Other individuals that receive rings can include the scouts on the team and the team's flagship station's broadcasters.

Losing Team

The NFL awards Super Bowl rings to the losing team that played in the Super Bowl as well. The losing team receives up to 150 rings. There are some stipulations on these rings though, to keep the ones given to the Super Bowl Champions more prestigious. The total value spent on the losing team's Super Bowl rings can not be more than half of what is spent on the winning team's rings.

Cheerleaders

Cheerleaders can receive the same Super Bowl rings that the team they cheer for receives, if the owner decides to award them to the cheerleaders. If the winning team exceeds the allotment of Super Bowl Rings awarded to them by the league, the team owner is permitted to purchase additional Super Bowl rings with his personal money. Nobody else may purchase a Super Bowl ring.

Class act for a class guy from a class organization. Al deserves it, he was on the team, I'm sure he contributed in a number of ways to helping win that Super Bowl. Although Al may feel a little wierd accepting it because he didn't actually play. I hope he cherishes it for what he meant to GB and the fans and what GB means to him.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Well deserved imo. He was on the team in in 2010 on the PUP and practiced a few weeks after he got off it before being ultimately released. He might not have made a mark on the field in '10, but it's hard to argue guys like Tramon Williams and Nick Collins wouldn't be the DBs they are today if it weren't for guys like Harris and Woodson on the team. His influence on this Super Bowl run was more indirect than anything, but he was just as much a part building this team up to a contender than anyone else in the preceding seasons. He'll definitely be a welcome addition to the Packers Hall of Fame when it comes time.

Harris was one of the most underrated/under appreciated players I've ever seen. There was about a 3-4 year window when he was arguably the best corner in the league, yet nobody outside of Packerland ever game him his due. I remember one year in particular he gave up ONE TD the entire season, and that was when we played man to man on almost every play. It pisses me off that the lasting memory the average football fan is going to have of him is getting abused by Plaxico in the NFC Championship, because he was a much better player than that.

Agreed King.

For this, I fault the DC. If you see your player getting consistently beaten, you give him some help. One of the strengths of a good coach is being able to change your plan if your plan isn't working. (Applies to real life as well).

Ring is meaningless, it must feel terrible for losing out on playing in the Super Bowl.

Awesome gesture by the Packers organization and I am sure Al Harris appreciates every bit of it. Not a meaningless ring at all.
