I am buying into the theory he moved down a lot late in the draft because he wanted to stockpile selections to makeup for zero undrafted free agent signings. I never really thought about that, but it is definitely a shrewd strategy.

The way I see it with Finley is like this. The Packers and him both want him to be the best TE in the game. He has the ability to. His health has been a concern (but he injured himself tackling a guy that was returning a Donald Lee fumble, IIRC).

If he can prove that he can stay healthy this year and produce like the best TE in the game, Ted will have no problem paying him what he is due. If you want the best, you have to pay.

It will really work best for both parties if he stays healthy and produces. It starts to get really hairy if he gets hurt or sees his targets drop...

This, I think. This was a weak, middle-less draft. There wasn't a lot of value to be had in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds. Once the top-tier was gone the majority of the rest carried 6th or 7th round grades.

I'm just going to put this out there...I highly dislike the Finley FA talk. Agree with everything said, yes. But letting a player of this caliber go, no. His injuries have been unfortunate. If anything, the tight ends drafted (mainly DJ Williams) can serve as a message to Quarless and Finley, but mostly Quarless.

My biggest gripe with Finley is that he still owes Rock a glove.

I think he becomes a FA only if he becomes a head case a la Javon Walker, Terrell Owens, et al.

But only WRs and DBs ever reach that level of head case. And, fortunately, Finley just looks like a WR when running routes. He's still a TE, and therefore immune from total ga ga land.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Jeremy Shockey has some diva-like tendencies as well.

Finley worries me quite a bit. He's got a mouth on him.

I disagree (sort of). I actually think Teddy went for anticipated need in this draft.

Sherrod - replace Ciffy in 2012
Cobb - James Jones/Driver replacement, and no more KR for Tramon
Green - good receiving back, replace BJack
2 TEs - Finley likely wants HUGE contract in 2012, so 3 horse race to fill that void
House - Woody done soon, Tramon/Sam 1-2, House a nickle?

I think it was a TREMENDOUS draft for stock piling and accounting for soon-to-be needs and like you said, we can still hopefully find some OLB help in UDFA.

Also, w/ virtually no picks aimed at DE, I wonder if this suggests we'll now make a run at keeping Jenkins OR we have a lot of faith in Neal and CJ Wilson.

Greg - He's got a good point here. We don't need QB. One wasn't drafted. Our #1 need was OL. We got 1 in the 1st round (our first pick) and a G later.

Then we had to give Aaron weapons. We got Cobb who is going to be a pretty good #2 or #3 WR (Gregorious was already our #1 last year). We got the 3rd down back because BJack may be gone (which is a bummer because I love his blocking ability). Then Finley's going to ask for big money and we got not one but 2 TEs just in case.

You pretty much pick up a DB every draft. Kind of an unwritten rule. We got one. You can never have too many DBs.

Yes, maybe it's coincidence that BPA happened to almost exactly equal our needs.

buckeyepackfan (21m) : I forgot, they corrected the call a week later. Lol btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY dhazer!
buckeyepackfan (22m) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.
buckeyepackfan (28m) : Turnovers rule, win the turnover battle, win the game.
packerfanoutwest (29m) : well, he was
TheKanataThrilla (34m) : Eagles down by contact on the fumble....fuck you NFL
Mucky Tundra (56m) : I think this games over
beast (1h) : Eagles sure get a lot of fumbles on kickoffs
Mucky Tundra (1h) : This game looks too big for Washington
packerfanoutwest (5h) : that being said, The Ravens are the Browns
packerfanoutwest (5h) : Browns, Dolphins have longest AFC Championship droughts
packerfanoutwest (5h) : As of today, Cowboys have longest NFC Championship drought,
beast (15h) : Someone pointed out, with Raiders hiring Carroll, the division games between Carroll and Jim Harbaugh are back on (who can whine more games)
beast (21h) : I'm confused, Pete Carroll and Brian Schottenheimer? When Todd Monken, Joe Brady, Kellen Moore, Kliff Kingsbury and Zac Robinson are availab

Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
