It is an indisputable fact that the best way to maximize an NFL team's chances of winning a championship is to have a dominant defense and a high-powered passing attack. It gets on my nerves when people say that the Packers don't need help in the receiving corps. All that separates a great receiving corps from a mediocre one is a single injury. Had one of the Packers' receivers gone donw for a significant length of time last year, they would have had Brett Swain to step up. Now they have Randall Cobb. Can anyone deny that is a significant upgrade?

I have to think, based on the way the Packers drafted this year, that Jackson will not be back. He has been rendered virtually superfluous, unless the Packers are not convinced their new pickups can reliably defend Rodgers on blitz pickups.

prob is - jackson is our best blitz pickup guy and he is also pretty decent at sweeps/screens and short pass play guy.

I admit he wasnt brilliant being a all down back for us - I prefer grant or starks ... and now we got another potential guy.

Im not sold on booting jackson ... - guess let's see how it pans out.

I wont go so far as to say indisputable ... but its true; a great D and a great passing attack - tends to lead to SBs.

Not to say a team focused on the run like miami or the jets (were or are?) cant get there. Its just that those 2 components are what have worked.

I personally really dont want to see jones walk ... Id rather just pay him. I like the guy and like his skills. If I am not mistaken he's our 2nd best WR on our team from the stats.

Ya I know he's dropped some balls ... but so has alot of guys.

I personally prefer we keep jones and jenkins (I mean the dude played with a broken hand and a calf injury that just wouldnt go away). Dude is our 2nd best pass rusher.

... little off subject there

but - I like this pick ...

They wouldn't need to address it if they didn't let Jones go.

And Driver's got more tread on the tires than people give him credit for.

Pfft!

Jennings is the only real receiving threat the Packers can count on.
Jordy is a good 3 I think.
Finley, I'm still leery on his injuries and lack of filling out a season.
Driver, he's getting old and it showed last season.
Swain, he's a special teams value more than WR value.

As for Jones, what if he demands 6 million a year, is he worth that?

I don't understand how others can't see how close to bad we COULD be at WR.
IF (and these are likely) Finely goes down, Jones demands too much, Driver continues to slide with age and we're suddenly in a very poor position for our passing offense.

Randall Cobb would be a slower version of Percy Harvin if any relation is made at all.

What if Jackson gets no good offers from other teams and can be had for the veteran's minimum, whatever that is, or not much more than that? That may not be out of the question. If so, it might be good to have him around. On the other hand, the Green pick may mean that they've given up on Jackson entirely, as he apparently proved this past year that he lacks effectiveness as a primary ballcarrier. I was very disappointed with him in that role. I don't think it was just the fault of his blockers.

Harvin is 4.29 to 4.48 range and Cobb was 4.38 to 4.58 at the combine.

Interesting thing to me is that Harvin ran a 2.51 and Cobb ran a 2.53 20 yard split. Seems like Cobb is as quick and almost as fast.

Yeah, he's not as talented as Percy Harvin is. Harvin is way more explosive and a better open field runner. But he's a similar player and being a poor man's Percy Harvin isn't a bad thing to have. Furthermore, I trust Mike McCarthy is more creative than Brad Childress and Darrell Bevell.

Another thing to factor in is the Packers spread the field for a clear majority of their passing plays. When you spread the field that much, you can never have too many targets.

Frankly, people aren't factoring in Cobb's return capabilities. He might've been the No. 2 punt return specialist in this draft behind Patrick Peterson. That is the saying something because Peterson is special at it.

I agree - I have been a avid fan of jackson for awhile now; wanted him to get his chance. And he got it this year. He did not produce. Blocking looked decent; and wierd thing is I was actually wishing we had grant out there for some runs which I didnt do last year.

I did like kuhn thou in his role.

Now that we have a utility guy like this, can we let go of the 5th WR being a special teams exclusive player? a.k.a. Brett Swain. Jennings, Driver, Nelson, Jones, Cobb.

I still hope we pay James Jones and Cullen Jenkins. Everyone seems to have made peace with the possibility that one, or both, will be gone come the start/end of free agency. I have not. I want them both back.
