well, technically that article said he was overrated "as a fringe 1st round prospect". Pfft to you, Nick.

We have two threads on Cobb?

He is THAT good! :thumbleft:

Leave it to a Viking's fan to criticize the abilities of a player who is considered to be a steal for being selected by GB at the end of the 2nd round when the Vikings chose a player who should have been a low 2nd or 3rd round selection with the 12th pick over all. They even tried to trade down and couldn't put together ANY kind of a deal.

I don't know why you have a problem with it. Instead of checking out our new players, I've spent the last two days scouting the Vikings' and Bears' draft picks, finding the most critical "weaknesses" available on the internet, and posting them on fan boards.

He's basically Percy Harvin without the weed/migrane problems. Man is he going to be fun watching on drag routes behind Finley and Jennings.

Harvin>>>>>Cobb

Overrated: Randall Cobb WR Kentucky 5-10 191

Cobb is a receiver/ running back/ quarterback hybrid much like Percy Harvin.

Cobb, however, is not as tough or talented as Harvin was coming out of Florida.

Shouldn't you just stick to one liners in Random Babble and the Back Alley. :thumbleft: We'll let you know when we need some of that Viking football aclimen.

You want someone to complain. Okay, I'll complain.

One OL. Three offensive skill players out of five. I don't like that ratio.

One DB. No DE/LB yet. I don't like that.

I can't complain about any individual picks. I like the first. Oddly, I also like the second round pick (even though IMO WR was the *last* position other than QB the Packers have any need).

But we've already got third-round quality RBs up the wazoo. And do we really need another TE more?

I understand BPA, and I agree with it. But if the BPA is far away from any positions of even moderate need, then why the heck not do a Belichek and stockpile extra late round picks.

So there.

As Zero said, if Jones leaves in free agency (which is probable), the Packers would be down to three good WR's, one of whom is nearing the end of his career, if they hadn't drafted one.

Here are some positions that I think were in better shape than WR coming into this draft: ILB, safety, RB, TE, NT, and interior O-line. Like you, I am not crazy about the RB and TE picks, but I'm not bothered by them because Ted knows what he is doing.

Saying he's verstatile doesn't do him justice. In some capacity, he could play QB, WR, RB (wildcat), KR/PR, and holder (great for fakes!). He seems to be a hell of a steal at #64, and I couldn't be happier with the pick and the timing considering JJ may be out, and Driver is aging.

I agree that the WR was a much greater need than people realize...within 12 months, the team could be down to Jordy and Gregorious as the only 2 viable threats.

As for TE, either Finley gets hurt (again) or has a monster year demanding big bucks. With either scenario, the team could need to find a replacement. Some rated Williams as the best TE in the draft, and unless Crabtree or Quarless blew your socks off, then it makes a lot of sense to target some TEs with a Finley departure very possible in 12 months.

RB makes sense too. Many saw the weaknesses with Bjack last year, and Grant isn't getting any younger. Harris is a good receiver out of the backfield that in a year or two could be groomed into a viable fill-in for Starks if injured.

I was thinking more along the lines of a bad snap or botched hold myself. Of course he has enough on his plate this year. They can look at adding that to his duties next year.

With the way things are progressing, James Jones might be back. He doesn't have six years of service and if there is a free agency, chances are it'll be under last seasons rules.

I throw this out there because imagine a four WR setup with Driver, Jennings, Jones, and Nelson. Then, use Cobb is the backfield as the Vikings do Percy Harvin every now and then.

How do you defend that?

In spite of my exponentially dwindling man-crush for James Jones, I'd still like to see him back more or less because of what you said porky.

Imagine the receiving combos you could make out of the big 4 wrs, Cobb, Harris/Bjack, Finley...good grief!

I have to think, based on the way the Packers drafted this year, that Jackson will not be back. He has been rendered virtually superfluous, unless the Packers are not convinced their new pickups can reliably defend Rodgers on blitz pickups.
