(\(\;;/)/)  <- it's a spider. be very afraid.

Even though we have no idea when the next free agent period will start, its never too early to start looking toward 2012.

The Packers are especially good at planning for the future, and Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel notes that G.M. Ted Thompson will have a decision to make on tight end Jermichael Finley sooner than later.

Silverstein believes the Packers will look to add a tight end in the middle rounds of the draft or pick one up in free agency this year because Finleys contract runs out after 2011, and Andrew Quarless was very quiet last year.

G.M. Ted Thompson cant sit around and wait to see if Quarless develops because theres a very good chance that after this year Finley will demand truckloads of money the Packers arent willing to deliver, Silverstein writes.

Using the franchise tag on Finley would make a lot of sense if a long-term deal is a problem. Either way, he could make himself a lot of money with a big 2011 campaign.

Finley dominated at the end of 2009 season but only started 10 games that season. He began 2010 on fire before tearing the lateral meniscus in his knee, but hes yet to put together a complete Pro Bowl-quality season because of injuries.

My guess is that the Packers would pay Finley plenty, but he has to prove himself for at least a season and possibly two more.

Ummmm we won the Super Bowl without him, but I could be wrong lol. I think he is a good player but lets see how he comes back after the injury before we talk about boat loads of money for him.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Haze, have you been rubbing it in to the Steeler rubes?

I think this is the second or third time I've agreed with you. Maybe that SB win without him had a humbling effect.

I think Filnley is going to have a big year. I believe McCarthy was prepared to use him in a variety of ways last year and while he made adjustments when JF went down the offense was in much better position to impose their will against teams with him in there.

Part of the reason The Pack barely got in was because there were times the offense could get little going and this guy opens up so much more for them it's about impossible for a D to hang with all those receivers.

Let's not forget that teams will look at what McCarthy was doing but now with this guy back they can forget seeing the same stuff. He puts a whole different wrinkle in what they can do.

Pay him fair value, but I highly doubt he becomes a free agent after this season. The Packers would likely franchise him.

I'm thinking if he stays healthy, plays/starts all 16 games, plus the post season ... I'm confident the Packers will lock him up. Right now, I think there are a few health issues that need to be resolved before a big contract is given to him.

I think they will put together a package deal with Finlley and Rodgers for trade bait, that way it will be more enticing to other teams.

We've won 4 SBs so far, including last year's. Finley has played on 0 of them.

Don't be surprised if Ted lets Finley walk. As good as he is, Ted doesn't like anyone hijacking the team.

Zero2Cool (3-Jun) : Golden is wearing guardian cap again. I bet he plays with it on too.
Mucky Tundra (3-Jun) : All the stuff I'm reading from Lions fans are pointing at his toe; he more or less has permanent turf toe in one of his big toes

Mucky Tundra (28-May) : I haven't watched the pregame shows in years and I don't feel like I've missed a thing
Zero2Cool (28-May) : Love says knee affected him all season, groin injury didn't help matters.
