Way cool story Wayne, thanks

As an old Navy guy, I salute what those Vets did. The amount of time and dedication is incredible.
Sadly they lost half their members during the project, but the legacy live on.

What these men did reminded of another salvage story I heard a few years ago. LST325 was being decommissioned by the Greek Navy. A bunch of WWII and Korean War Navy men paid their own way over to Crete and with much effort and sacrifice repaired the ship enough to get it back to the States.
When they first got there they did not even have a functioning galley so they had to walk 2 miles into town AND back 3 times a day to eat. These were men in the late 60's and early 70's.
The captain is from a town near here and I listened to him speak about their ordeal. It was amazing. Needing to under go a safety inspection and requiring fuel at Gibraltar before they could continue. In the stormy North Atlantic in December.
These guys were truly apart of the "Greatest Generation". I bought a baseball cap to give to my dad. Unfortunately I have it back.
