The last question is the best one.

The Drill: Q&A with the Packers' Nick Collins

Nick Collins, one of the heroes of the Green Bay Packers' Super Bowl victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, made one of his first public appearances since that game, bringing his family to the Daytona 500 Sunday as guests of Wisconsin driver Travis Kvapil. Collins, who attended Bethune-Cookman University, a few miles from Daytona International Speedway, talked with a handful of reporters before the race:

Q. What have you been up to, lying low?

A. Spending family time, catching up. They were here in Florida while I was up in Wisconsin working, so I spent some time with them, and just relaxing and soaking everything in. . . . My hometown of Cross City, Fla., is going to put on a big parade for me - that's on March the 5th - and I think that's when it's really going to hit me, like, I am a champion.

Q. You went to school down the street, and I guess you spent some time here?

A. Yeah, you know, I used to come out here and clean up. I was a college student, trying to earn an honest living, trying to earn a few dollars. The Daytona 500 is very big for this city, and I'm just glad to be a part of it.

Q. What did you think when you got the invitation?

A. My son (Nicholas Jr.) is a big NASCAR fan, and I've started to follow the sport a little myself. They called . . . "Are you willing to do it?" I was like, "Sure! That's right up the road." We've been keeping it a secret from my son for a while. We pulled up today, he was like, "NAS-CAAAAAAR!!" That was a great moment.

Q. What other cool things do you get to do that you never expected?

A. It's unreal. You always said you wanted to do these things. I wanted to experience the Daytona 500. I want to go to the Kentucky Derby. Now that I'm a champion, it might come through. Things just fall into place.

Q. Where do you have that football (from the Super Bowl interception)?

A. I'm trying to get Big Ben (Roethlisberger, who threw the interception) to sign it for me. They're going to put a nice quote on it saying, "37-yard touchdown, Super Bowl XLV," and I'm going to hang it up in my house. I've got a spot picked out. The referee tried to take the ball from me, and I was, "No, no," like a little kid, "that's my ball.

um...he really expects Big Ben to sign the interception ball?!? If I were Ben, I'd be livid about the request alone!

It doesn't hurt to ask.

lol exactly. I wish I could see the look on Ben's face when he asks him if he would sign it!

Good interview, thanks for posting. Nick has really grown on me over the years. I remember when we drafted him I was A. wondering who he was and B. Trying to figure out why we were drafting a player from Bethune Cookman.Adding to my frustration was the fact that he wasn't very good his first few years. He was definitely a late bloomer.

I'd sign it. It would be a bit awkward at first but I don't think I'd have a problem with it in the end.

I really don't see Ben having a problem with signing it at all, they are all NFL players and sign alot of stuff for other players. I can't remember off the top of my head but there was a player that would get the opposing rbs game used shoes.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

If someone robbed my house and set up all the furniture, pictures, and trinkets in their home, then invited me to come over and have a picture taken in front of their home with their happy smiling family...uh...I don't think I'd take them up on their offer!

There are some stretches in my analogy, I know, but still Ben was powned (as the kids say these days) by Nick and I don't think I'd want to acknowldege that if I were him.

ya guess its how you take it and how you feel about the event ... the dude could be like - 'good show man' and laugh about it and look to improve next year.

I dont think any of the packers flaunted or acted like bleepholes to any of the steelers; wernt coming across like bragarts like the jets were in the preseason.

A good team beat a good team - fair and square. IMO if you can respect that then go ahead and sign it.

I'm not saying the packers are coming off as inconsiderate, arrogant, or anything like that. I'm just saying that if I were Ben, I'd justifiably be salty that I was on the bad end of one of the more memorable plays in recent SB history, and I wouldn't be overjoyed or even see the humor in signing the ball of the guy that made me look bad in front of 1xx million US viewers.

It's not Big Ben's fault. Howard Green made a great play, and Nick Collins cleaned it up.

dfosterf (8h) : Kenny played through it, and a shame he gets little credit for that, imo
dfosterf (8h) : Big men. I hope it's not the undoing of Kenny Clark
dfosterf (8h) : Probably his toe. Pretty much a great center. Toe injuries are brutal to bigen

Zero2Cool (29-May) : Whoa
beast (29-May) : OMG the website is now all white, even some white on white text
beast (29-May) : Henderson, who admits to taking cocaine during the Super Bowl against the Steelers, might dislike Bradshaw as he lost two Superbowls to him
wpr (28-May) : Hollywood Henderson said Bradshaw “is so dumb, he couldn't spell 'cat' if you spotted him the C and an A.”
Mucky Tundra (28-May) : Cooper stock=BUY BUY BUY

Zero2Cool (28-May) : LaFleur on Watson: “Christian is doing outstanding. I would say he’s ahead of schedule.”
Martha Careful (28-May) : Bradshaw is a dumb ass cracker. I am so tired of his "aw shucks" diatribe. He should shrivel up and go away.
buckeyepackfan (28-May) : He wad all butt hurt because Aaron duped the media saying he was immunized.
buckeyepackfan (28-May) : Bradshaw needs to retire. He's been ripping on Rodgers ever since the covid crap. He was all hury

Zero2Cool (19-May) : he giving up his win business?
beast (19-May) : Speaking of Woodson, sounds like he'll be a minority owner (0.1%) of the Browns
Mucky Tundra (15-May) : Zero, regarding Woodson, that'd why I find the timing with Williams peculiar
dfosterf (15-May) : Ryan Hall y'all does a great job of tracking thesr
