It is highly recommended that you do not carry your Social Security card in your wallet.

Plus there is a potential delay you can run into when you really need a passport so get one before hand. They are good for 10 years.

My friend recently lost his wallet and got his license from the DMV with a bank statement and a temporary debit card. I don't know how to say this without sounding racist but I did tell him to go to the DMV that's almost exclusively black people (customers and workers) because they were super nice and easy there when I had to renew my license. I guess it's harder depending on the DMV.

A few years ago I bought my Dad's car from Mom. Everything was set except there was one more place for her to sign. I walked out to my car. Signed the darn form and came back in. I said, guess what? I was on my way to Mom's place and I met her and she signed the form. The lady laughed, (knowing Mom lives a half an hour away. Knowing it my Dad had just passed away.) She said as long as she didn't see me sign it, it was alright with her.
