The stoner that lived upstairs from us moved out. I thought we would FINALLY have some peace and quiet.
WRONG
Landlord rented the upstairs to a single mother with 2 small children.
Crap
So.....we are looking to move again.
I thought the days of being a "gypsy" were over.
All i ever wanted was a place to live with not alot of noise. A quiet place of retreat for me and the wife. I don't know why God made this (or allowed this) to happen. Askin g for a quiet place.....is that asking too much? I'm in my 50's and sick most of the time.
Just venting.

I understand the venting part, Alan. Trust me, I've done my fair share around these parts this past week.. =P

Maybe this is God's way of, again, showing you how to be thankful for what (and who) you have in your life (or even that you HAVE it). Patience is a virtue. I know you two don't have kids, but maybe do something for them (the kids) and be the cool old people that live downstairs.

Always remember Al. It's 100% of the time ALWAYS a blessing to be a blessing. You focus your energy into being a blessing for others, you'll be surprised how much you forget your own 'woes'.

If you need someone to talk to, you should still have my number.

We've spent most of our lives since we were first married (30 years this year) helping/raising other people's kids. My wife is still working with the broken bone in her back, and not complaining.
I was trying to rest today.......it was so noisey with the kid running around i was just about jumping out of my skin. I cranked a fan up to try to drown out the noise.
Seriously, my heart can't take it. I have tinitus and have trouble sleeping as it is. My blood pressure is bad.
Oh well........i don't know what to say/do.
I just don't get it. It's frustrating, to say the least.
Those of you that have a home of your own, appreciate it. You don't know how good it must be.

We looked at a place today. I think they call it a "townhouse?" Kind of a fancy name for an apartment building.
It has 2 bedrooms and a basement. It's really a congested spot, but it's the only thing so far that is even close to what we can afford.
And we could start moving in right away, as it's vacant.
The only problem right now is we'd have to come up with one month's rent and security deposit. $1240 up front. Of course our current landlord has $675 of our money (the security deposit for where we are now). I already told them we are moving as soon as possible.
I tried talking to the woman that lives above us now to get her to at least try to keep her kids quiet until we can move out. She got all huffy and said no one is gonna tell her how to raise her kids. (SOMEONE should, obviously)
I was nice about it, asking for consideration of us till we can get out.
So many young people today are taught THEY are what's important, and to hell with everyone else. NOT the way I was taught.

Yes, yes I do. I grew up in apartments and bought my first house when I was 27 - the very first single family house I lived in my entire life. After having lived in several apartments growing up, college dorms, and 3 apartments on my own (with my wife) I DO know how good it is and I would never go back.

Careful what you wish for Cheesey. I'd take a stoner any day over a single mom with 2 kids. You know those kids will be brats.

My advice - move into the highest story. That's what we did. We're on top, and the people below us have to hear our noise. I prefer it that way.

Best part of it all, zombies don't really think and tend to stay even or go down over going up. The higher you are up, the safer against zombies.

It's 2:00 a.m. and I'm still awake because the guy in the next dorm room is still playing recordings of some imam singing the Qur'an . . . as he does every night. I don't understand why Muslims like hearing some guy wail out verses from the Qur'an for hours on end. Why not just read them like, you know, everyone else does?

I'm 22 years old and I've lived in over 22 different houses/dorms/apartments etc., It comes from having divorced parents and bad living situations. Disrespectful neighbors suck. Our downstairs neighbors last year were a couple in their upper-twenties. They moved out and now we have two college aged guys. You'd think that the couple would be the better neighbors right? WRONG. They argued all the time, day or night, and had a dog that I could crush with my one foot that yapped all the frickin time. Not cool. The two guys now can be loud but usually only on the weekends and we're all good at communicating problems. It's great.

I agree with Zombie about the upstairs thing. I always go for the upstairs now in the two level flats that are available around here. I've lived below people and it's not fun. But because I know what it's like (to live below people) I try to use my headphones as much as possible and I turn my subwoofer off after 9-10 o'clock every night. The worst part is that I have an office chair with wheels and it makes a loud noise downstairs. I try to roll as little as possible but it's tough.

The most interesting situation was probably when my dad had a duplex where the house was split into two sides. The people that lived next to him were some rowdy college aged Asians. It was pretty funny to hear some of the things they said but it got annoying after awhile.

I hope you have good luck in finding a nice, quiet and affordable place to live.

I just discovered a website last night called SimplyNoise . What a godsend! You can choose from white, pink, and brown noise; you can choose the volume; you can choose whether or not to oscillate the volume (makes it sound like waves on the sea); and you can even set a timer. They also have samples of soundscapes you can download.

After I fired that website up, I hardly heard the wailing next door at all. Problem is I slept in till after noon. :???:

Give the website a try, Cheesey. You don't need an active internet connection -- just go to McDonalds, fire it up, and take it home.

Or even better, download Mindsync . It's an ancient (we're talking Windows 3.1!) program for producing "binaural beats" (basically white noise), but it works great. And it's free.

Mucky Tundra (14h) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (15h) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (15h) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (15h) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
