I just heard a guy talking on ESPN radio talking about what they should do with Brett Favre. They were saying that the Packers should offer Mr. Favre the same exact deal they offered him in 2008, the whole 20 million package and the retire his jersey on opening day.

It got me thinking about the offer, wouldn't the Packers want to offer the same deal so it doesn't look like it was a bribe. Plus wouldn't it be nice to retire Favre's jersey and celebrate the Super Bowl on the same day. Oh ya it would be a jab at Favre but it would all be good.


So let me have it now, and yes Zero I put Favre in the Packer section because it involves them 😛
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I'd say sign him so he can retire a Packer but celebrate the same day as SB ... nope.

Retire his jersey on Superbowl day? What a godawful idea. The Superbowl is about our current team and no one else.

I'm sure they will offer Favre the same deal. Once Favre officially retires, the Packers can no longer sell Favre merchandise without his permission. So this merchandising deal will benefit both sides.

Brett acknowledged it was a deal that had been in the making for years, so anyone thinking it was a bribe is uneducated on the deal itself.

That's not to say the Packers weren't hoping Brett would accept the deal and stay retired, they did feel he should stay retired for his legacy (which Brett accurately said 'let me worry about MY legacy') with the Packers. Even Brett's mother stated at the time and recently, Brett should have stayed retired the first time.

I got that out of my system ...

I wouldn't expect the Packers to reach out this year at all because you never know if the guy is gonna play again. If he doesn't play this entire season, I'd expect the Packers to reach out to him next March/April to retire his jersey and do the deal. Reason being, they want to be humiliated again.

I don't like the phony one day contracts so a guy can retire with a certain team. Just all a put on.
As for his new deal with GB. They may do the $20 mil. I would not be shocked if they offer less.
Either way they will not approach him until after a new CBA is in place. No since trying to line things up if there is no season.

Wtf that much? I thought most teams signed one-day no-pay deals to guys who want to retire in a certain jersey.

I think the $20million all depends on 4's desire to be an ambassador for the GBP's. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's basically a personal services contract. He does however many personal appearances, attends this many games and the Packers get to continue marketing Favre jersey's. If he doesn't want to push the team I'd imagine the deal would decrease and they'd strike some sort for the jersey rights, both parties make quite a bit on them.

Isn't there some bad blood with the White family blocking the team from marketing 92 jersey's?
