We may not get as much snow as Bob but we don't live in the mountains either.

We got about 16 inches. I opened the garage door and had a drift that was 2 1/2 feet deep at the smallest point. 4 feet or more at the apex. Nearly 10 feet wide and more than 22 feet long.
I got my brand new snow blower out (picked it up yesterday.) and started to hammer at the drift. Made one path out into the drive and discovered the end of the drive was nearly as deep when the snow plow when through.
Worked at it for a while and after about 40 minutes the machine quit. Too cold or snow in the engine. I brought it in the house and let it warm up while I did too.
Went back out and got the drive cleared off after another hour and a half. I will do the neighbor lady's later.
Drove to the office the parking lot is full. The side streets are not plowed. Found a place to park in our courthouse parking lot and walked 3 blocks to the office. Had to wade through the drifts to get in to the office.
I got a few things done. I will call forward the phones to my cell and head back home.
It is about time to get my neighbor's sidewalks cleaned off.

It's storms like you got that really disrupt services and driving. Out here, in the mountains we very seldom get big storms, unless you're way up in the nosebleed atmosphere. What we do get is continuous snows of 3, 4, 5 inches that pile up day after day. Then, warm weather sets in for a week with rain and crap, and the snow settles down or melts off completely.

Then, a week later it starts all over again. Where our home is, we are just high enough above the valley that we get snow and it may be rain down below us. Right now we have about 26 inches on the ground in our front yard which gets sun most of the day. Just 15 miles west of us the snow depth is 8 feet, and on top of Lolo Pass it's 11 feet.

The most snow on the ground at one time in our yard was about 12 years ago.....73 inches. Gave up shoveling when it hit 50 inches.

It's 23 below today and the snow on my boulevard is nine feet tall. Pardon me if I laugh at your story, man. With all the females in my house, blowing snow is a Godsend.

When I got in my truck today it was -17. Not much more than an inch of snow though.

Here in Northern VA (very Northern - just south of DC) we're getting all the warm air being shoved out of the way by the big storm.

It's 60 here!

35 yesterday, and 35 again tomorrow, but right now it's friggin' 60 degrees!

When I get out of work I'm gonna grab a t-shirt and a cigar and take my dog for a nice long walk...

I don't need a tape measure.

1. Snow sucks. Period.
2. Ice sucks. Period.
3. Cold sucks. Period.
4. Wind/drifting sucks. Period.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
