Where do you guys see this guy playing after Clifton retires? I really don't mind him right where he is. He did a pretty good job on Tuck today. Tuck got a few pressures, but for the most part was stalemated. It probably helps playing next to Sitton, who quite frankly is a beast. And nice job Josh having Driver's back today.

I'd love to see the Packers land Carimi in the draft, but I don't think they will be in the position to nab him, without trading up.

I personally felt Tuck schooled Bryan Bulaga. Aaron Rodgers just made it look too easy out there for anyone to notice.

Bulaga is a LT prospect, but he is not a great LT prospect. He is a Chad Clifton like a little bit. He doesn't have the tenacity of Clifton in my opinion.

If the Packers can land a great LT prospect in the draft, they shouldn't blink an eye. At the same time, they shouldn't blink about moving Bulaga to LT to replace Clifton either. He's had his ups and downs. I think more ups than downs though.

He is a rookie. You should lower your expectations of him being a primetime tackle right away.

Whoa now, I never expected him to handle one of the best DEs in the game. However, stating Bulaga was pretty good against Tuck is an inaccurate assessment in my opinion. Bulaga was bad at times. Rodgers made him look better. Rodgers made everyone look better.

Why do you gotta put such high expectations on the kid? He's playing out of position and you gotta bust his knees?

I think Rodgers is doing what F**** did for our OL '07.

"That kid's going to be a good player. I think Nick McDonald will be on my team for a long time. I think that kid's coming fast.

McCarthy on McDonald's position: "Center, or even a guard. He's a square, tough (expletive). Smart. Has good feet.
Those guys coming from small schools, it just takes them a little longer to get over that hurdle. Once they do, man . . . you never have enough of those guys."

Hmm, does Mike McCarthy have a little Rex Ryan in him? :)

Back to topic, Bulaga's competence vs. Tuck is a little deceptive since the Packers utilized such a quick/short passing game. Even if Tuck had an open shot, half the time he wouldn't get to Rodgers in time.

With that said, I still think he'll be decent at RT, or really good on the left side in time, just saying any conclusions drawn from his performance v. Tuck are misleading.

I guess my point with this topic, is why settle for Bulaga at LT, when he adequately plays RT. Why not go find a better option. I'd really like to sign a veteran player at LG in Free Agency this year. Rodgers didn't get hit nearly as much this year, but our running game is really bad.

I think it is hard to assess Bulaga's final position without answering some bigger picture question first.

1. Are we going to keep Campen as coach?

2. Are we sticking with the ZBS?

Until the answer is no to one of the two of these questions, I don't know how much the rest of the possibilities matter.

Good point dyeah_gb. I don't know if what we're running is still considered the ZBS, some bastardized form, or what the hell it is. Either way, 1st priority is to boot that system to the door!

There was a good thread earlier that discussed the different types of ZBS. We were using an Alex Gibbs variant that Jagodzinski had learned in Atlanta under Gibbs. There are also Power ZBS, etc variants.

Reporting I've seen is that the only one who has had success with the Alex Gibbs variation is Alex Gibbs, and the guy who had experience with it for the Packers left after that first year.

Alex Gibbs has been bouncing around since Atl (Hou, Sea) without an incredible amount of success, and retiring from Sea this year in the middle of the season.

I wouldn't be so sure we will see Bulaga moved to the left side. There was no question he was going to be a good OT in this league but there was discussion about whether or not he would make a really good LT.

If we need an improved and more consistant OL next year I don't know that moving Bulaga is the way to accomplish that. The ideal situation would be to let him stay where he is and make that position better because he will be better and figure out what else needs to be done.

I think we signed Clifton to two years but it's unrealistic he can go thru the season so we need someone probably young and solid there to back him up. If he doesn't get hurt early Clifton will be good for the first eight games or so before his knee's start giving out.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Bulaga stay where he's at. I would rather have him playing a really solid RT than him playing a mediocre LT and somebody else playing a mediocre RT. I don't see where that would allow for improvement.
