I think he called a heck of a game today. He called a heck of a season in 2007. He has the potential.

On this thread, I'd like to see the name calling dropped and people who don't like MM name 10 possible coaches, either currently coaching or available, who are better.

I'll give you Bill Belichick. Anyone else?

I'm under the impression he's at worst in the top 50% of NFL active coaches. Let's think along lines up upgrading a position. You don't drop a player unless you have someone else better.

Is Bill Belichick going to leave the Patriots for the Packers? No. Can we get John Gruden to leave announcing to coach the Packers? Probably not. Can we get Tony Dungy to coach the Packers? Probably not.

So until we have a legitimate replacement, I'll stick with MM. I'm actually in his corner right now. He's been coaching some pretty good games lately.

Tony Dungy will not coach again.
Jon Gruden would constantly compare Rodgers to Favre and we'd lose Rodgers because of it.

Belichick
Harbaugh
Tomlin
Mike Smith
Reid
Payton
Cowher

Is all I can think of whom are better at Head Coach than McCarthy. I'm iffy on saying Jeff Fisher could be added.

Interesting to see you give Harbaugh props. His playoff record is impressive for a young coach.

MM deserves credit for preparing the team for a great performance yesterday. I am also pleased to see MM statement after the game where he said "same week as the last." Lets see if the team can avoid another Cardinal incident.

Regarding forum complaints about MM though,I think that it is ok to have some negative posts after a loss though. We obviously all invest alot of emotion into this team and it should not be a surprise if some irrational statements are made after a tough loss. I think this forum is great for that. Someone might be bitter after the second overtime loss in the season and call for MMs head. When I see statements are made calling for MM to be fired, I usually just chalk it up to emotion and the typical guy approach of wanting some sort of action after something bad happens (so my wife tells me).

Look, I realize critiques are an essential form of fandom. That's not what I'm getting at here. It's the perpetual wishy-washy wavering and scapegoating of MM and TT. They're evil! They're geniuses! No. They're human, and they're doing they're respective jobs their own way...and happen to do a pretty good job of it. Things don't always go your way as a fan, but our last few years have been pretty damn good. The Packers have been a serious point of conversation regarding teams who are contenders for the past few years.

Go ahead and criticize the game-plan, the play-calling, the draft-picking...but the constant "Fire him!" or "Great Job!" threads every time something either goes our way or not is just a big ol' eye roll to me. Not a big deal, but enough to get a drunk Twinkie to make a thread last night. :)

Also: what name-calling? I read over the entire thread and nobody is calling anybody else a name. I threw out a couple mild words in general but that's like getting mad at somebody for calling the weather a bastard. *shrugs*

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

This fan gets irrate with McCarthy because this team never seems to be able to pull out the close games. Unless we are blowing somebody out you just get that sinking feeling that we will find a way to lose. Our OT record is pretty horrible and I feel that is MM playing afraid-to-lose football. Great game yesterday, but the 6 turnovers certainly helped.

Joking aside, Foster is right on the ball about Campen needing to go. I don't see why MM doesn't see it. There are times in life when you are working with a friend of yours and you know your friend doesn't pull his weight, but you try to compensate for him. You put your friend above the goal. That's commendable as a human, but for the team, it's a bad thing.

Shawn I think has a better understanding of what we have to do with the OL than Campen does. I really think that. The whole "well, he gets paid to do it and you don't" is a bunch of bullshit because I personally know someone who can do my job better than I could but he'll never get it because 1) he doesn't have a degree, 2) he doesn't have my charisma so can't interview a tenth as well as I can even though he does circles around me in software engineering.

And for those of you who don't like that comparison, tough shit. Coaching requires brains. Software engineering requires brains. It's a valid comparison. That's why Belichick is the best coach in the business - he's a genius (literally).

MM is not without his faults. My biggest beef is he doesn't punch opponents in the face when they're down on the ground like Belichick does. He often lets opponents back up. No, not good. Kick them when they're down and keep kicking them until the bell rings.

We did exactly that against the Giants. We went for the kill. Hopefully this is a sign of more to come. I want to see us continue to do that.

As for the OL, see what I said to Wade.

By the way, we earned those takeaways and we should have gotten 2 more. We need to catch INTs on D that go right into our freaking hands. I'm glad there were no small children around as I went loose with profanities both times.

Thank you Zero. This is what I was looking for.

Now the big question for those who don't like MM, would any of those people leave their current positions to coach the Green Bay Packers? You don't fire someone until you have a replacement lined up or else you risk a guy who's worse.

MM is like Ryan Grant. He's a top 10 at his position but he's not the best. When Grant went down, we realized just how much we needed that guy.

Still want him fired. Good game though today. Enjoyed the balanced playcalling.

I'm open to changing my mind on wanting him fired but he has to show he knows what he's doing and so far OVERALL(not just 1 game)...not really. Hope he turns into Megamind from here on out for a superbowl run.
