If "the norm" is really average "normal" people, why doesn't the porn industry put those people out there, to show the world that porn is "harmless?"

Do you really think the media would actually interview them? No one would watch a story about normal, well-adjusted porn stars.

Why do you think the local paper interviewed me and my wife? Because our story is relatively unusual. Not because we're normal, average graduates. They actually did interview another graduate, who was the definition of normal. Guess what happened with that story?

They didn't print it.

Here's four questions. (I have no idea on the answers, btw).

In any given year:
1. How many women are abused/raped?
2. How many total women are there in the population from which #1 is drawn?
3. What is 1 divided by 2?
4. How does the answer to #3 change when the population from which #1 is drawn changes from "all women in (choose country or countries)" to "all women in porn".

As I said, I have no clue on the answer. (I have gut feelings, but just because I probably have the biggest gut on PackersHome doesn't make my feelings correct.) But it seems to me that the answer to #4 would go a long way to answering the dispute between Cheesey and Rourke.

Some numbers.

Porn is guaranteed $300 a scene and often more, often closer to $600 a scene. Top porn stars are making $2200 for a session.

Software engineers with 10 years experience in this area are making about $120k a year. That means they have a college degree from a respectable institution and have worked in this industry for 10 years.

$120k a year translates to $60/hr in a 40 hr week with 2 weeks off. Porn is making $600 for an hour work and 2 hours preparation, so that's 3 hours total.

It is known that a software engineer will in their career get carpal tunnel syndrome and will be in pain the rest of their lives. It is also known that you will have back problems and eye problems. The back problems can be so severe that I know one Software Engineer who sees a chiropractor twice a week. Me? Once every two weeks. I'm a nazi about getting up every hour and walking around.

It is also known that you will be stuck in traffic probably an hour each way. I had one job where it was 90 minutes to work and 2.5 hours to get home. No exaggeration whatsoever. I was also working 55 hours a week. Then my job went to India while the CEO got a multi-million dollar bonus.

Who's got the better job? Certainly not the software engineer.
