According to Forbes the Cardinals are worth $488 million in 2010. They should cut to the chase. Tell Albert they are not going to pay him anything but they will give him 10% ownership of the team. If he plays 3 years or 10 years his value in the team will grow.

The skinny
The Cardinals returned to the playoffs last year after a two-year absence on the back of slugger Albert Pujols who won his third MVP award after the season. The first baseman is under contract with the Cardinals for two more years and will command one of the biggest contracts in the history of game. The Cards are one of the best supported teams in baseball with yearly attendance regularly topping 3 million fans. It is an impressive feat considering the midsize market status of St. Louis. Fans better keep showing up if they want payroll to remain near the top of National League teams as the Cardinals' owners are on the hook for $20 million in annual payments for the money they borrowed to build Busch Stadium.

With Favre out of the picture, ESPN should have Ed Werder follow Pujols' every move until he signs a contract. That would be awesome. (I kid, but I can see ESPN doing just that)

I'm kind of excited to see what Lance Berkman can do. He showed up to training camp looking pretty slim. What do you think Wayne?

I have low expectations for him. I had in on my fantasy team for the past 5 years. Batting avg down the past 3 years. As are slugging, OPS and OBP. (It would have been more but 4 years ago was really horrible for him.) HRs down 4 straight years. RBIs down every year since the 2006 season (one slight increase in 2008) Then down every year after that.
He may work out fine. I just expect nothing from him. I figure he can't possibly be as bad as last year. If he is not everything he gives is a bonus.

I am also skeptical of him playing the OF after not playing there for several years.

I would prefer to use the 3rd OF spot on a youngster hoping they get someone on the way up. Apparently the Cards didn't like what they had in Craig and Jay and they didn't want to tie up a lot of money in their pursuit of Albert.

He has a no trade contract so St L can't do it without his consent and at least a month ago he said he won't agree to any trade. I think that was a part of his negotiation hammer he was using.

I bet he'd wave his no trade clause if one of those teams offer him 30 million dollars a year.

could be. however why would he want to? he can get that at the end of the year too?

I think part of the hang up is the length of years. He wants 10 years and the conventional wisdom says 7-8 due to his age and nagging injuries he has had.

Zero2Cool (6h) : Johnson didn't make it until 2020. Ring 2023. 🤷 Personally, he should have been in years prior to Hall.
    Zero2Cool (6h) : HUMP DAY
beast (6h) : Guys that have a good shot at making the NFL Hall of Fame usually get into their teams pretty fast
beast (6h) : Yeah, but is Kampman and the others in the NFL Hall of Fame?

    Zero2Cool (6h) : I could be wrong there though
Zero2Cool (6h) : Guys like Kampman, Tim Harris, Al Harris, etc all over 15 years. Hall of Fame is 5 year wait
Zero2Cool (6h) : I guess I see players in Packers Hall come way later

beast (8h) : I missed it, sorry, but he got into the NFL Hall of Fame years before that
Zero2Cool (8h) : Jones took his sweet ole time!
Zero2Cool (8h) : Yeah, he's in the ring of honor, just saw video and his name is up there
    Zero2Cool (8h) : Didn't they have a thing in 2023 for Jimmy's ring of honor? I swear I saw it
beast (8h) : Though if they're legitimately trying to re-sign MM, then it makes sense.
beast (8h) : Jerry Jones still hasn't put Jimmy Johnson in the Ring of Honor, but he's in the NFL's Hall of Fame, Jones is petty
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Unless the Cowboys are planning an extension, seems kinda petty
beast (22h) : Cowboys denied Bears request
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : From what I'm reading, MM is under contract through the 14th of January; after that he's free game
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : McCarthy let go or not extended??

Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Missed FG into a Lions TD; that'll do pig, that'll do
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : That might be it for the Vikings
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Oh so the refs do know what intentional grounding is
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : what the hell was that Goff?! Not much pressure and he just air mails it to Harrison
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : They really need to to get rid of the auto first down for illegal contact
Martha Careful (6-Jan) : watching the Vikings and Lions it's understandable why they swept the Packers. So much better product
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Even when GB got pressure he was throwing darts; vs no pressure on that last pass he just air mails an open guy
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : didn't have guys in his face ... pressure makes difference
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Where was this Darnold vs GB?
    Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : BALL DON'T LIE
