In yesterday's chat with Rob Demovsky in the GB Press Gazette, somebody asked about halftime of the NFC championship game at the end of the 2007 season. Demovsky's answer was not very revealing, but it was interesting. Here it is:
[Comment From Joe]
I read an article recently that Mike McCarthy was furious at Favre during halftime of the '07 Championship game apparently yelling if it were anyone else he'd bench him. First is there truth to this, and second if so how could this not be publicized for 2 years?
Rob Demovsky: Much of what I know about that situation was given as "off the record" information, meaning it cannot be used, even without attribution, so I can't get into specifics. In general, I can say from talking to many, many people, the Packers were not happy with Favre's play in the first half and thought that for some reason he wasn't completely into it or listening or something to that effect. Just putting two and two together, I believe that game went a long way toward ending Favre's tenure with the Packers. After that game, they decided they weren't going to be beg him to come back. If he wanted to return, I think they would have taken him back. But when he retired in March, they were fine with that.
