If Quarless continues to develop (which is far from a sure thing anyway) they will find a way to get him on the field when Finley comes back. McCarthy has shown that he is very willing to adjust his formations to make the best use of his personnel (5 WR and 2 FB being examples of that). I would like to see them line up sometimes with Quarless at TE and Finley split wide, where he can fully concentrate on scaring the crap out of those little DBs.

Exactly. Finley would be more than capable on the outside.

No matter how good they are at blocking, Finley is an every down TE, so the defense will respect the formation, but be well aware any of his attempted blocks could be smoke screen for him releasing behind a linebacker who is vacating a zone. And what is great is that in a blink of an eye, a 3 WR, 2 TE set can become a 4 WR, 1 TE set or even 5 WR set without running on new personnel

One (of many) thing I don't have a good feel for is how good our TEs are at blocking. Simply based on reading articles, my understanding is that neither Quarless/Finley are particularly good run blockers which would expose our intentions if both are in.

From what I heard, Finley made big strides with his blocking in training camp and is now quite good at it. It's not something that I was able to keep track of when he was on the field, though. I'm not sure about Quarless, but my guess is that blocking would be hard for him, as it is for most rookie TEs.

I think sometimes people assume that good receiving TEs are bad blockers. For example, I've always assumed that Dallas Clark wasn't much of a blocker, because everyone says he is essentially just a WR, but during Sunday night's game Chris Collinsworth said that the Colts really miss Clark's blocking. He's probably right. Usually he knows what he's talking about.

Two TE formations are the best way to beat the Tampa 2 defense, which is really the only thing that currently slows us down. You need a TE, ideally two that can get down the middle.
Frankly I'm surprised not to see Lee and Quarless more. Lee seems to have fallen into disfavor somehow.

Probably because he's been playing like crap all season. He's been in decline ever since his one big year in 2007. He was a healthy scratch for last week's game, which he said was a surprise.

Finley plays with confidence. Quarless plays stiff. He looks tense out there. He needs to loosen up.

What are the Packers going to do?

Develop Quarless, but there really is no question. Finley is the best playmaker on the Green Bay offense. If Quarless has to take a back seat, then so be it.

They're both gonna be dominant. Jmike probably moreso.

Q was one of the best blocking TEs to come out of Penn State from what I read. I also read an interview where he said he made it a priority in school and at Packers training camp.

I have not read anything that says he is a weak blocker.

The odd thing is that Fin and Q are the same age because Fin came out so early. They should both be around a good long time.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.
