He failed because his healthy, veteran team became an injury plagued, old team before our eyes. The offensive and defensive lines, strengths for much of last year, became obvious weaknesses. Their QB has been seriously banged up all year and they have been without their best WR all season and their second best WR cannot seem to get on the practice field.
Childress probably had to lose his job because the team was falling into chaos, but let's not pretend this season is all on the HC. None of the problems that led to Childress losing his job would have occurred, or been noticed, if the team performed better, and much of the drop in performance lies squarely on the players.
