Stuff like this is so annoying. What the writer (Rob Demovsky, G.B. Press Gazette) fails to mention is that the Packers LOST both games last year in which they controlled Adrian Peterson, and they WON the game this year in which Peterson gained 131 yards. Can't people get it through their thick skulls? Stopping Adrian Peterson is NOT the key to beating the Vikings. Let him have his damn yards. Just shut down their passing game.

Key Matchup

Packers run defense vs. Vikings running back Adrian Peterson

Last year, the Packers did a respectable job against perhaps the top running back in the league. Defensive coordinator Dom Capers centered his game plan around stopping the Pro Bowl running back. Peterson got 25 carries in each of the two games and rushed for only 55 yards in the game in Green Bay and 97 at the Metrodome. But last month at Lambeau Field, Peterson was back to his old ways, like when he had games of 103, 192 and 112 in the previous two seasons against the Packers. On Oct. 24, he rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. After leading the league in rushing defense last season, the Packers have slipped to 20th. It didnt help the Packers that defensive end Ryan Pickett lasted only seven plays in the first game against the Vikings before his recurring ankle injury forced him out. The Packers hope to have Pickett available this week. They also didnt have 355-pound defensive lineman Howard Green, who was picked up off waivers a week later.

Yeah, I was thinking about this all day yesterday (can you say eager for 1pm Sunday ffs?!) and the one thing which kept nagging me is that this game will most likely be determined by two things: special teams, and the combination of pressure on Favre with our secondary's coverage. AP will in no way be able to carry the Queens through this game, but even a hobbled Favre (as much as it pains me to admit this) can still make something out of nothing. We need to make sure we first give him nothing, then STOP him before he has a chance to turn it into something. That's it, imo. The rest of our team is playing well enough that I'm not really worried about anything else.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Well this year or secondary is much more for real than last year. We also should be able to get to Favre on a regular basis. Let's face it, the astroturf in the Dumptydome is just gonna be a fast track for Clay, Woody and maybe even guys like Shields to blitz/get hits on Favre.
If we can stuff the run, and with Jenkins, Raji, Green and possibly Pickett, that is a very good possibility, this will force Brett to have to throw. Which means we will try to hit him. If we hit him, he will throw the ball up for grabs.
When the ball is up for grabs, I would take this defense over any in the NFL. This was not necessarily the case last year.

I just got done with a funeral for an old lady. Her great-grandson (7 years old) shit-talked me about tomorrow's game for no less than fifteen minutes after the service. hahaha.

That's how I see it too. Favre is still dangerous. The other dangerous player is Percy Harvin. Those are the guys the Packers need to focus on.

"bozz_2006" wrote:

Kinda.

With Berrian out, they really were depleted at the WR position. With Rice back, you have Harvin in the slot, Rice on one side and Lewis on the other, who makes a decent 3rd WR.

We'll see how good Rice looks after not playing all season long, though.

Tramon on Rice, Shields on Harvin (to match his speed) and Woody on Shiancoe. If you wanna blitz Woody, bring Chillar in to cover.
As for Lewis, Peprah can shut him out.

Packers offensive line vs. Vikings defensive line.

I know Green Bay handled them the first go around, but that was on a slick field. The Vikings' defense is a different animal om their home turf. Frankly, I suspect Rodgers to take some hits in this game. My hope is the hits will be limited compared to last year's game.

Good point. Why is Lambeau Field so slick anyway? I've been meaning to start a thread about that. It's supposed to be a state-of-the-art playing surface--real grass with some artificial fibers mixed in to stabilize it.
