The Havner signing suggests that Quarless' injury may keep him out of the lineup for awhile. The Packers like to use two-TE sets sometimes, and you should have three TEs for that, in case one of them gets hurt.

Tauscher going on IR means we are now up to six opening day starters on IR--three on offense and three on defense. I bet the Packers are still leading the league in that category.

Tauscher would have been nice off the bench for the rest of the season, but it is what it is. I'm guessing if Clifton goes down, Bulaga moves to LT and Lang to RT? Hopefully Cliffy can stay healthy the rest of the year now.

Havner is a good guy to have for versatility reasons, but I would have prefered to keep Harris over a 4th TE.

This is what I'm thinking. I'm kind of worried about Cliffy's health. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed every game from here on out.

I pretty much knew that either Cliffy or Tausch wouldn't play all 19 games. So now the season is almost half over and Tausch is out. We could use some depth here. I'm a little worried.

A little more on the IR of Mark.

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/108205364.html

Tackle Mark Tauscher, placed on injured reserve last week, will have surgery on his right shoulder on Tuesday. "This was clearly a medical decision," McCarthy said. "Mark made a lot of progress week to week. It just got to the point where it was in Mark's best interest to have the surgery. I don't think we would have been able to get Mark to the point where he would have been able to play with the harness. He made a lot of progress. Give Mark a ton of credit for trying to play with the injury. ... We asked him to stay a part of it in the meetings and travel with the team and so forth. ... Mark Tauscher is still a big part of our football team. ... We felt it was in Mark's best interest to have the surgery. It's part of the game. Mark has had a tremendous career. ... It's also the path of our season. Injuries do occur. At some point, careers do come to an end."

Wow. MM specifically said this:

Mark has had a tremendous career. ... It's also the path of our season. Injuries do occur. At some point, careers do come to an end.

Does that mean MM is expecting Mark T to retire after the season? If so, thank you Mark Tauscher for the years you spent as a Packer.

Tausch is still under contract for next season, but it's not exactly at a salary that would be palatible for a backup RT assuming Clifton would be back and still playing well which would keep Bulaga at RT. I could definitely seem them cutting him in the offseason to keep the youth movement going as Lang has shown to at least be an adequate backup/spot starter to this point when healthy.

They won't need to cut Tauscher. He will retire. His mini-rebirth in the second half of last season was more than I expected from him anyway. He's been a great player for us.

I think Mark waived the white flag this past week and basically told the Packers he was done.. IR him, let him enjoy the ride for the remainder of the season with his boys.

BTW.. I wouldn't be surprised if Mark goes into coaching.
