Capers was bad as a head coach?

He took a franchise to the Championship game in their second year of existence.. the Packers happened to end his quest that season for a ring.

In 4 years with his first expansion franchise he was 30-34.. impressive.

In his second stint as a HC, he took an expansion team that squandered his expansion picks and made them close to a .500 team in year three..

I can think of a ton more coaches that haven't done as well with established teams let alone expansion teams.

No, I said Lovie Smith is bad as a HC. I'm saying Capers is a better DC than HC, but didn't say he was a bad HC. He was pretty decent, however, he's an elite DC.

I agree he is an elite DC.. I apparently framed my point poorly. He hasn't been given a fair shake to prove that he can be an elite HC as well.

Nothing more.

He's had 8 years. Has a record of 48-80. You forget the Houston Texans for 4 years.

Of course with a footnote - both teams were expansion teams. That's a bigger challenge than taking over an established team. Still, an elite HC would have taken at least one of these teams to a winning record. He's 30-34 with Carolina and 18-46 with Houston.

No I mentioned the Texans.. you know the team that utilized the expansion draft to pick up Tony Boselli with the 1st pick whom was done from the start.

Even then.. he took the Texans to a 7-9 record in year three.

Granted both teams slid in year 4.

That Texans franchise screwed up in so many departments during its first few years, especially personel-wise, that I'll give him the benefit of the doubt there.

Would be great if Nolan got released again next year, but Sparano isn't as big of an idiot as McDaniels is, I'm afraid, so we'll just have to hope that Capers sticks around.

As to an earlier post... Trgovac would be great to just step into the role, normally, but he's been a 4-3 guy his entire career.

Now, I've seen coaches make the transition more often and he should've learned a thing or two from Capers by now, but you never know what results he'll post.

I do love that his defenses usually know how to get after the passer, being a defensive line coach and all.

Duh. That 2nd stint went right over my head.

Unfortunately, you judge coaches by record. He had a mediocre record with the Panthers after 4 years and a lousy record with the Texans after 4 years.

I do agree it's not fair as they were both expansion teams but still, that's how a HC is judged mainly.

(I'm really trying hard to discourage other teams from grabbing him, help me out here. 😉 )

I expect him to get a few interviews after the season is over. he deserves it. if he is hired elsewhere I will regret his leaving.

He's been a head coach twice. Perhaps it's something he doesn't want to do any longer. I really believe he could become the NFC's version of Dick Lebeau if he wants. Lebeau tried coaching in Cincinnati and it didn't work. He's now considered one of the best coordinators in the history of the game. I think Capers can get there. I hope he does. If the Packers are smart, they'll up his pay to keep him around along time.

I agree the biggest factor against this happening is his age. But if he wants to take one more crack at it, I wouldn't hold it against him. Just PLEASE let it not be in Minnesota.
LOVE him as a DC. If Mike McCarthy ever pulls his head out of his ass on offense, Dom could get a ring here.

Zero2Cool (3h) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (5h) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (7h) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23h) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
