"Packers add another name to injury report

Posted by Mike Florio on October 30, 2010 12:35 PM ET
Teams that play on Sunday submit their final injury reports on Friday. Sometimes, an updated report is issued on Saturday.

Someday is today for the Packers, who have added running back Dimitri Nance to their list of wounded players, with an ankle injury.

Nance is questionable, even though he did not appear on the injury report at all during the week.

Signed from the Falcons' practice squad after Ryan Grant went down for the year in Week One, the rookie from Arizona State had two carries for six yards in Week Two, but he has not touched the ball since. As Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel explained it on Thursday, Nance was the intended target for a screen pass on Sunday night that landed in the stomach of Vikings defensive end Jared Allen. If the ball had been on target, Nance may still be running with it now.

The Packers like his hands. For now, his ankle may prevent him from showing them off against the Jets."

Nance has a long way to go before he can be compared to Emmitt Smith.

My point is RBs can be good and great with out being speeders...

Smith was not good or great. He was a plodding pedestrian back who ran the 3 yards because O-line gave him that and fell down for 2 on his own.

All he had to do was not drop the ball and trip to lead the league in yards. He had the best O-line in football.

Nance could do what Emmitt did behind that line. Curtis Enis could have done what Emmitt did behind that line.

Anybody could be compared to Emmitt. The incomparable ones were on the line.

I would like to see Starks too. I liked his highlight video on youtube. I hope that translates well to the NFL.

I really hope Nance gets his chance. I think he has the attributes to be a good player. Maybe even a gamechanger in the future.

And what would make you think that?
He wasn't even very prolific at Arizona State which isn't exactly a football powerhouse.
Sorry no confidence.

You're getting some crap for this statement, but it's the most realistic one I've seen in this thread.

I'd love for both Nance and Starks to have great NFL careers and be real gamechanger, but neither seems to have the attributes to do that.

There's something that can be said for a guy who had a good college career but average measurables or vice versa. They both looked awfully average all-around, though. I guess Starks has some good speed for his size, but that's about it.

We found Grant as a guy who was spitting carries in Notre Dame just about his entire career, having a very good year when he did carry the load all by himself. He also ran a 4.43 40, while being an inch shorter than Starks and being 4 pounds heavier.

The signs are there for some hidden gems.

I don't see any signs for either Starks or Nance.

I'm not saying that they can't develop and become good players, but I just don't see what Nelson is seeing.

Kiper ranked Starks as the second best RB in the country before his injury. The dude's got skills. He also has more vision than Grant. And you know, can catch.

In which he looked pretty average at most times, as well.

And this was not as some big college, facing amazing defenses, this was at Buffalo.

He's shown some signs of greatness from time to time, but overall, I'm not expecting too much.
