I don't think it was a bonehead non call. They can go either way and I think that was later in the game and the time out was too valuable.

Remember, the referees overturned Shiancoes TD.

I don't think the refs would've overturned that one. It seems like they are reluctant to change where the ball is spotted unless it is obvious, and that one was not obvious. It actually looked more to me like Jennings' momentum caused him to come up short of the first down. The defender may have contacted him when he was still beyond the first down marker, but I believe the refs make that call based on momentum rather than contact. It was a tough call, and I don't think they would've overturned it.

Then again--I didn't think they would overturn the Shianco TD either. It is a crapshoot sometimes on those replay challenges.

The officials got the reversal wrong; the replay showed that and the league concurred. I didn't think it was a smart gamble then, and the fact that it happened to pay off doesn't alter my perception of the odds.

I agree with Greg on the Jennings play. I wouldn't have had a problem with McCarthy throwing the red flag there, but I'm pretty sure the call would not have been overturned. It looked to me like he did not secure possession of the ball until after his momentum had carried him inside the first-down marker.
