I think this game makes or breaks MM's career as a coach. This game is not just a personal showdown between Mike McCarthy and Favre. It is that, but it is more.
If the Queens beat us, we're tied in the division, on an underperforming team riddled with injuries. Meanwhile, the Queens have just signed Moss and will be getting Rice back soon, two guys to whom Favre can just throw the ball up and they will make a play on it. That's what Favre likes and needs.
If Favre pull's MM's pants down YET AGAIN, he will never recover as HC in Green Bay. He will have lost credibility with both players and fans.
If he can pull this out, it could spark this team to pull their heads out of their asses and show up for more than 15 minutes per week. Maybe they'll rally around each other in the face of these injuries. Maybe Rodgers will start playing like someone who doesn't suck shit.
Either way, this game is a huge watershed. This team, and MM's career will go one way or the other after this week. And it's probably for the best. Dude needs to shit or get off the pot.

I think this game is far more a measure of Dom Capers' credibility than Mike McCarthy's. Overall, McCarthy's offense output has had decent output this year. Historically, it's been the defense that has failed spectacularly in big games.

For me anyway, this game is Dom Capers' last chance to regain my respect. Id he plays tentative and scared against a 41-year-old quarterback, I frankly couldn't care less what he does the rest of the year.

Any defensive coordinator can play aggressively against weak quarterbacks. But when he retreats into coverage against every marquee quarterback he faces, as he did last year, one has to question his balls.

What are you talking about? You're pretty much saying Aaron Rodgers doesn't deserve to start and should have never started for this team. McCarthy has nothing to do with Favre other than releasing him. You can't create an offensive gameplan against Favre. He doesn't play defense.

I'm not sure how you can say (well, write) this with any sort of sincere conviction.

One game is going to decide McCarthy's career? Um, no. If anything, McCarthy's career will be decided by his whole body of work while in Green Bay. Let's not forget that he was the coach of a terribly under-performing 4-4 team last year and worked to turn around that team to become the hottest team in the league and play some excellent football.

Frankly, fans losing credibility in McCarthy means shit; fans generally are overly emotionally reactionary, while they also carry little influence with the team. What matters is that Ted and Mark not lose credibility in him. I fail to see how three losses to Favre would lessen McCarthy's credibility amongst his own players, since QB play has barely, if at all, missed a beat with Rodgers.

A loss would put us at 3-4. We'd be third in the division. That would be a huge blow. However, it still would not be the end of the season. There is too much football left to be played.

My point is simple: a game does not make or break a career. It may be indicative to some degree of a coach's career, but it will not make or break it. It is a big game, no doubt, but I do not see how a win will finally rally this team or somehow magically make us play complete football for more than 1 quarter. That is all on the coach, and it's his job to have his team ready to do that despite the outcome of the previous game.

Tomorrow night is a big game, but to think it is a make or break game for the regime or this season's Packers team is to put things out of proportion.

If we lose, fans will piss and moan, as fans usually do. Unless McCarthy goes out there and forfeits before kickoff, I do not see how the game has any bearing on what the players think of McCarthy, and more importantly, what his bosses think of McCarthy.

Right now McCarthy is 5-3 against Chilly. People have some awfully short memories. My beefs aren't with what he has done against our rivals, but that he can't seem to keep the team on an even keel. He also seems to play down to weaker opponents instead of squashing them. Being a head coach in the NFL must be difficult, but McCarthy seems soft to me.

I'm sure it means more to Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson and most of the players, but nobody is going to lose their job if when the sun comes up Monday Morning(and it will!!!) The Packers are sitting at 3-4.

The only reason this game should be a little more important is that it is a Divisional game.

Just like The 2 games against The Lions and Bears, it's been 3 years, enough is enough.

If you're going to make a "fireable offense/lose credibility with the players" argument, last year's losses to the vikes were MUCH more influential.

The team is stricken with injuries, but also underperforming. How Mike rebounds from these obstacles over the coming weeks with a team that is now getting a number of players back (Clay, Pickett, Bigby, Harris) will have much more to do with his stability than 1 divisional game.

We all know this is not "one game." MM's teams have been consistently underperforming for YEARS. Wanna know when underperforming really comes back to bite you in the ass? When you have injuries on top of your consistent underperformance. Remember 2008?
It's time for Mike McCarthy to shit or get off the pot. Put up or shut up, Mike.
