I thought Bryan Bulaga was bad in his first start last week, but someone who knows a lot more than I do (Cliff Christl) said he played well, so I kept my mouth shut. This week he looked even more awful than he did last week. I'll be interested to hear what the experts say this time.
We had been hearing that Bulaga was NFL ready, but my eyes are telling me a different story. Is he going to be another Jon Michaels? (First round tackle from 1996 who didn't pan out.) It's too soon to tell, of course, but a player with Bulaga's credentials should be able to at least play decently as a rookie. It's true that he's been up against a couple of good pass rushers and he hasn't gotten much help, but good tackles are supposed to neutralize good pass rushers. Bulaga has been getting schooled repeatedly, and he's had a lot to do with these two close losses. As for run blocking, it's hard to tell if he's any good because they never run to his side. His run blocking will be beside the point anyway if he can't even slow down the league's better pass rushers.
