We know that in some circles this will be viewed as blasphemy. But it's time. He's too banged up, and he's too distracted. Most importantly, he's just not getting it done.

The Vikings need to find a way to get Brett Favre off the field.

Two years ago, Tarvaris Jackson entered the season as the starting quarterback in Minnesota. After two losses -- by five to the Packers in their first post-Favre game and three to the Colts -- Jackson unceremoniously was benched, in favor of Gus Frerotte.

Jackson's stats weren't bad. He had completed 30 of 59 passes for 308 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. He also ran for 65 yards against the Packers.

This year, Favre has five touchdown passes and seven interceptions through four games. His passer rating of 67.0 is lower than any full-season rating of his 20-year career.

More importantly, he's banged up and, in crunch time of last night's loss to the Jets, grossly inaccurate. It seems as if he's playing only to show that he can keep playing. With 11 games to go until he accomplishes the unprecedented feat of 300 straight starts and with 12 games to go in the season, we can't imagine Favre stepping aside voluntarily.

It's highly unlikely if not impossible that the Vikings would bench him. But they find a way to give T-Jack a chance. The season can still be saved. The defensive is still potent. Adrian Peterson is still Adrian Peterson.

In 1998, when Randy Moss was a rookie, it generally was believed that any quarterback with the arm to throw a deep ball could be a star with Moss running running under the rainbow passes and somehow coming up with the catch. So why not Jackson now? Percy Harvin already has become a faster, more explosive version of Wes Welker with Moss clearing out the underneath areas. Given Moss and Harvin, the Vikings simply don't need Favre as much as they thought they did.

Then there's the fact that Jackson was Brad Childress' hand-picked quarterback of the future back in 2006. Childress still believes that Jackson could be that guy, even if the future is taking much longer to unfold than previously believed.

If it happens, it won't be a benching. As Jason Whitlock of FOXSports.com suggested a few weeks back, Favre's cocktail of injuries could result in placement on injured reserve. And as the off-field issues escalate, landing on IR could be a lot more palatable than taking a suspension.

Either way, the Vikings need to seriously consider giving the keys to Tarvaris Jackson. Given that he performed extremely well at times without guys like Harvin and Moss running routes, Jackson could be the slap in the ass that the Vikings desperately need, right now.

Florio needs to get off his anti-Favre high horse. Sure, Favre is stinking it up, but the entire team is terrible. The team wants Favre starting and at the current point in the situation he is in, it is by no means a reason to sacrifice his starting streak.

Just my two cents.

(also, I am going to the Vikings/Green Bay game at Lambeau)

I'm actually embarassed for the media. You want to bench someone that three touchdowns in a half against probably the best defense in football on the road for T-JACK.

Yes, great insight, wonderful analysis. I love how he doesn't even mention the three touchdownsin his objective article.

i think it's funny how now the ENTIRE vikings team sucks when in the off season, all the team needed was FAVRE...FAVRE...FAVRE. then rice goes down & it's OMG - now favre has NOBODY to throw to. child puhleez! i also think it's funny that there appears to be a need to defend him and/or his play when even HE says how terrible he's playing. like redsox said, to each their own i guess. all i know is this is gonna be a VERY interesting season involving alot of .500 teams battling it out to make it to the playoffs. should be fun!

The three turn overs by Favre, or the three touchdowns ... which was more of an impact to the outcome of the game?

Either way you answer that, I think Brett has to be your QB if you're the Vikings. If he's on the side line, then he's just another coach who isn't running the show. On the field, he's the coach and player.

I know NSD is going to blast me for this, but I'll take the 3 TDs with the 3 turnovers. Why?

The Jets D is perhaps the best in the NFL. Last year, it was the best in the NFL. This year, it may be even better than last year.

Let's say we play them in the SB. We might have to take some risks to get some points on the board and pray our D could stop them if Aaron turns the ball over.

AP had a decent game but if you went to the play by play:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20101011020&page=plays

the Vikings were simply punting when they went rush first. Don't believe me? Look at drives 1Q: #1,2, 2Q: #1,2, 3Q: #2

It wasn't until they aired it out in 3Q #3 that the Vikings scored. Favre threw a TD on that drive with Favre throwing the ball every single time except for a -2 yard run by AP.

Then in 4th Q #1, it started with AP rushing but finished with Favre throwing his 2nd TD.

The 3rd TD the Vikings scored was 100% passing.

Results: Vikings only scored when they aired it out.

Surely the NFL can suspend a player who is on injured reserve. At worst the suspension would be delayed until the next season (which he could evade by retiring, but I find it hard to believe that the CBA would preclude the league from fining or taking the equivalent of game checks from a player on IR.

When? For the record, Florio hates Favre, and hates how he's playing for the Vikings. I don't know his motives, but he's made his career by bashing Favre (look at his stuff prior to Favre signing with Minnesota.. He purposefully posted the smallest bit of information on Favre just to get the hits). I can't stand the guy because he knows it all.. Must come from being a former lawyer.

Anyway, I'm only ok with Favre being benched if his elbow is seriously hurt. Until then, keep him in.. T-Jack has his chance to shine and blew it. He should thank his lucky stars if he gets another chance, and he better play like he know WTF he's doing.

Hmmm.. 3 TD's that led to 21 points or 3 turnovers that led to 13 points. I'll take the 3 TD's, Favre's turnovers had a part but all these benching articles imply that the Vikings would win with T-Jack.

Against the best defense in the league on the road, I don't think T-Jack wins that game, but who knows. Favre did not have that bad of a game when they let him be Favre.

A lot of people just read box scores but ZS had it right, a lot of those drives, what did you want Favre to do, the running game wasn't getting going, the one drive, they did three straight runs.

Overall, I can't see a logical argument for benching Brett Favre especially after seeing the clear connection between him and Moss after TWO days of practice.

Basically this is what this guy is saying "Okay, so you got Moss like 3 days before the game, Even with that Favre goes for 250 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 2 fumbles against the best team in football on the road, bench him for T-Jack". Really? This article is not objective, I don't know this guy but I bet if you went through his articles, you'd see a lot of Favre bashing.

There is no logic in this article.
