So, with Aaron Rodgers making a polite remark regarding getting the best players on the field, it got me thinking - what is the run-pass ratio of another team that have a similar offensive talent pool to ours, who also have a less than average rushing attack.

(Discounting QB runs)

Green Bay Packers (Rodgers, Jennings, Driver, Finley, Average O-Line)

122 Pass Plays 60.09 percent
81 Runs - 39.91 percent


Indianapolis Colts (Manning, Wayne, Clark, Good O-Line)

172 Pass Plays - 63.24
100 Runs - 36.76

Taking everything into consideration, I agree with Rodgers assessment of flinging the ball more. Brandon Jackson is below average as a feature back, whilst Kuhn is just a nice changeup. Addai/Brown>Jackson/Kuhn.

I think the percentage totals should be closer to 70-30, with the running game being used in "safe" situations, like a second and relatively short.

Interesting numbers there - Colts have 272 offensive plays to our 203, roughly 33% more. I don't watch the Colts that often but from what I've seen they are much more likely to take a 4 yard checkdown to the RB on passing plays. For whatever reason the Packers aren't doing that very often this year. While the Packers have had some sustained long drives it would be nice to see a little more of that style of offense. To me a 4 yard checkdown is nearly as effective as a run in terms of keeping the defense honest and increasing the time of possession. This in turn would help our beleaguered defense (short on down linemen, possibly on linebackers, and the secondary).

I was also thinking the exact same thing when Grant went down. The Colts have been great-- with a solid receiving corps, great QB, pretty good line, and forgettable RB-- for the last maybe 5-10 years (or so?). Well done coming up with these numbers for a little more tangible evidence for the comparison of the team than straight opinion.
