so...are my fellow packer fans going to complain that the cowboys just got the benefit of two consecutive bad calls of the officials (cheap hit on favre not called followed by PI not called)?

:)

I'm glad the one on Favre didn't get called. If Favre and Rice want to play through the whistle, it's their own fault when they get hit after the whistle. He isn't above the rules, or anything.

The PI was horrible. I don't see how that did not get called.

I was surprised that there wasn't a flag on that, but when they replayed it with the sound of the whistle, the whistle and the hit were almost at the same time. I fell asleep so I didn't see the Pass Interference.

It wasn't called last week because there cannot be a roughing the passer penalty when he fumbles the ball.

The call on the Saints was roughing the passer, NOT a face mask penalty. You can't touch the qb in the face, unless he fumbles, then he is fair game. It was borderline whether or not the Cardinals should have been called for a facemask penalty. But since Rodgers fumbled, there cannot be a roughing the passer penalty.

Hitting the QB in the head in the act of knocking the ball lose does not remove the protection of the QB. There is no difference from the ball being knocked out and a pass (Warner situation).

It should have been roughing last week, just like this.

For the record I hate QB protection. Please reverse some of the official stress points and rules and let things get back to real football.

Protection of Passer

1. By interpretation, a pass begins when the passer -- with possession of ball -- starts to bring his hand forward. If ball strikes ground after this action has begun, play is ruled an incomplete pass. If passer loses control of ball prior to his bringing his hand forward, play is ruled a fumble.
2. When a passer is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional movement forward of his arm starts a forward pass. If a defensive player contacts the passer or the ball after forward movement begins, and the ball leaves the passers hand, a forward pass is ruled, regardless of where the ball strikes the ground or a player.
3. No defensive player may run into a passer of a legal forward pass after the ball has left his hand (15 yards). The Referee must determine whether opponent had a reasonable chance to stop his momentum during an attempt to block the pass or tackle the passer while he still had the ball.
4. No defensive player who has an unrestricted path to the quarterback may hit him flagrantly in the area of the knee(s) or below when approaching in any direction.
5. Officials are to blow the play dead as soon as the quarterback is clearly in the grasp and control of any tackler, and his safety is in jeopardy.

Speaking of missed calls.. There was a play that was whistled dead in the Cows/Vikes game and Favre was PLANTED. There was no penalty called on that defender.

Just wanted to clear up the air that people tend to think that Favre gets preferred treatment by the officials.

The question was never answered whether Aaron fumbled the ball or if it was an INT.

I am sure I wasn't the only one who went ballistic at Warner getting the call and then scoring.

That is because Favre was a dumbass and kept playing after the whistle. Had he stopped, turned to throw the ball to the ref. Never would have been hit. It also should have been a flag for him throwing the ball downfield, that late after the whistle.

Personally I find that Favre doesn't get the calls that other QBs get. Maybe it is his tough image comes to bite him in the ass.

Regarding the lack of penalty, at first I was in total agreement, the problem was how late the whistle came. To me there was no way the defender could have stopped himself from the hit.

That's utter horseshit. The play should end when the ballcarrier, whoever he may be, is on the ground. You never know what could happen between the moment the quarterback is in the tackler's grasp and when he's finally on the ground. Anyone remember Eli Manning in the Super Bowl?
