I love Al. He has "good 'tude."

Looking at everything, who we have, who we need, the draft, FA, etc.

Based on the information in front of me, I think it's time for the Packers to move Al to safety.

What do you think?

he's a press corner...i doubt he would succeed at safety. Not enough bumping allowed back there for him

No Way! Al is a awesome corner ... when he had decent safety backup he is pretty good (better then anything else we got (besides woodson)) ... ie the time he had trouble was when bigby was out and martin didnt know his assignments ...

I do think we need to get another decent corner thou - I dont know if blackmon/lee/underwood will cut it ... I definately dont like underwood (but who knows maybe hes a project but at the cost of us some games Id rather not) ... blackmon was only so-so last, lee I cant even remember ...

Keep him at corner back. Hey, even if he's not his previous self, i bet he could be good in some situations against certain players. Maybe not a Fitzgerald but i bet he will still dominate some guys. Never know with an acl though. I dont remember too many guys ever coming back from that to play corner back, especially man on man press guys.

The guy is a warrior and keeps himself in fantastic shape. I'm hopeful he'll return to play CB, and when he starts to lose a step he'll make a good nickel back before they switch him to safety.

I'm no expert but he seems to be too light to play safety. Woodson has the build to move inside once he starts to get beat out on the edge, but Harris may not have the frame for it.

Although it is a need, it's not desperate. We have one pro bowl safety and an average starter. One good draft pick or FA would be enough to provide some nice depth and then the 4th safety can be Derrick Martin.

If Harris moves it doesn't help the big picture that much as CB is as much of a need as S. And this is a great draft class for safeties from what i've read.

No. Lets look at the scenerios. Harris at SS. He isn't the tackler we need up front. He is a little to small and is just not built for that positions. So the other option is to move Collins up to SS and Harris at FS. Al is not fast enough to play center field at FS. Collins is the fastest guy on the team or 2nd. Moving him up would be taking away his best weapon.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Al Harris has said that to extend his career he'd be willing to drop to a Nickel or Dime back.

Bad idea to move him to Safety. Safety tackles RBs all day long. That's why you got guys like Bigby who do ok at Safety (but he needs to be better in coverage).

Harris' strength are his bumping at the line then covering. He hits the guy at the line so the guy doesn't get a jump on him. It's one way to cover a guy who's faster than you. You don't let him get 0-60.

Harris is not a solid enough tackler to play Safety. If we have to extend his career, we'd do it in the same way that Neon Deion's career was extended - move him to our 3rd CB spot. Does he make too much money to be a 3rd CB? Well, answer this question first - how many elite teams have 3 good WRs? Well, there's one we play twice a year and have lost the division to two years in a row.
