Kiffin heading back to California

Former Raiders coach Lane Kiffin, who was hired by the University of Tennessee only months after being fired by Al Davis, reportedly is heading back to California.

Southern California, to be specific.

Scott Wolf of the L.A. Daily News reports (via CFT) that Kiffin is expected to return to the Trojans, three years after leaving Pete Carroll's staff to become the head coach in Oakland.

Cue the rumors linking Jon Gruden to the coming vacancy at Tennessee.

By all accounts, Kiffin was the seventh choice for the job, behind Mike Riley and Chris Petersen and Jeff Fisher and Jack Del Rio and Steve Mariucci and Herm Edwards.

He's not the most pleasant of fellows. I bought him a shot of Scotch once and he scoffed because it wasn't a double.
