Group wants The Who booted from Super Bowl

Child abuse prevention organization protesting Townshend involvement

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - A South Florida child abuse prevention group wants the NFL to reconsider booking The Who for the Super Bowl halftime show.

Child AbuseWatch.net objects to Pete Townshend performing because of his 2003 arrest by British police on suspicion of possessing child pornography. He was eventually cleared but placed on a sex offenders registry for five years as part of a formal police caution for accessing a Web site containing images of child abuse.

The Pompano Beach group's founder and CEO Evin Daly told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that their concerns are focused on Townsh

"I'm a fan of the band, I grew up with The Who. Pete Townshend is the only issue, and the issue is that he's a former registered sex offender," Daly said Friday.

"The issue is, it sends the wrong message to American families."

He did not return phone or e-mail messages Friday.

In a Dec. 17 letter to Daly, Joe Browne, the NFL's executive vice president of communications and public affairs, said the league was aware of Townshend's arrest. He also noted Townshend's charity work.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told The Associated Press on Friday that Townshend and The Who will perform in the Feb. 7 halftime show at LandShark Stadium in Miami.

"U.K. police cleared him since he was doing research for a project on child abuse," McCarthy said.

Messages left Friday for The Who's U.S. record label, Universal, and the band's publicist were not immediately returned.

Just some two-bit advocacy group looking for cheap publicity. Evin Daly, whoever the hell he is, deserves to be castrated. I feel sorry for his children, if he has any. What a lousy excuse for a sack of bioplasm. This group sounds like the PETA of child-advocacy organizations.

By the way, any legislator who voted for a sex-offender registry law that puts men on the rolls for looking at pictures of child abuse should be summarily executed as well. I've looked at pictures of abuse for my job before, as well as for academic projects; the thought that I could have been registered as a sex offender -- as a precautionary measure -- for this is appalling and revolting.

By the way, Mr. Daly, Townshend is a former registered sex offender. He's no longer on the registry. Why should he continue to be treated as something he is not?

Exactly. He's a former registered sex offender who, most of all, was never actually convicted.

But when it comes to child abuse and child pornography, you're marked for life.

Given, they have a big fall back rate, but as soon as they've paid for what they've done, they still continue to be outcasts and cast-offs.

I recall that we had to write an argumental piece (elucidation?) on a site that listed sex offenders for life and in public. From 30 people in my class, only 2 didn't agree with the site. I was one of them. And I felt it afterwards. Lol.

Again, it hasn't even come that far in this case. The man hasn't been convicted. He hasn't abused anyone according to the law. It's just ridiculous that any kind of accusation gets you on that list, although I like the intention of it. These people should be followed at first, with, again, the high fall back rate.

It's a difficult subject.

Anyway, I don't know what to say about this group. "It sends the wrong message"? What wrong message are they sending here?

Fear is a terrible thing.

Within each of us is a deep desire to go overboard to protect ourselves against what we fear.

"Mommy, why are there bad people in the world."

"I don't know. But you don't have to worry, because I'm going to nuke everyone who might someday maybe do something bad to you, baby."
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The problem is with the public knowing when someone is charged with something. Guilty by association an I think it's bullshit. You get accused of something and immediately there's a percentage that believe you're guilty.

I don't think that stuff should ever be made public UNLESS it merits a conviction.

"The issue is, it sends the wrong message to American families."

So they're saying that the RIGHT message to send to American families is that anyone who was even suspected of this crime should be marginalized by society for the rest of their life, even if they were cleared of all charges. Idiots.

beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
