The Who will rock Super Bowl XLIV

By MJD

SI.com's Hot Clicks breaks the news this morning that The Who will be performing during halftime of Super Bowl XLIV. There was some earlier talk of Bon Jovi playing the gig, but I guess that didn't work out.

Opinions will vary, as they always do. Optimistically, I do believe that The Who has some songs that will make for a fun halftime show -- "Baba O'Riley", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Who Are You", and "The Seeker", to throw out a few. I'm also assured by Jamie Mottram, who's seen them perform live recently, that The Who can "still bring it."

Myself, I've accepted that the Super Bowl Halftime show just isn't aimed at entertaining me. Or anyone under the age of 40, for that matter. It's aimed at entertaining (or at least not offending), the slightly older, extremely mainstream audience that the biggest television event of the year draws. Four of the last five Super Bowl Halftime acts have been white males in their late '50s or older.

I'm cool with it, but I'm anxious to get everyone else's thoughts. Would you rather have someone a little more current, or are you cool with Roger Goodell only picking bands that are represented in his personal CD collection?

The Who is a fricken amazing band.

With two of their members having passed away, Pete Townsend looking like a zombie and having been 'disgraced', it's barely The Who who's playing anymore, but I'll take it over Rihanna, Justin Timberlake or something like that.

Like I said in PP.O.. I never cared much for the Super Bowl halftime entertainment. I typically mute it and talk with the many friends I've watched it with for the past 3 years.

I'm usually laying in my bed, just watching the SB, so it's either porn ads, 200th rerun of That 70s Show or the halftime show.

A while ago, I would've gone with That 70s Show, but as of late, with Tom Petty, Rolling Stones and Springsteen, I'd rather watch the halftime show.

It might've gone down a bit on flashyness, but the music is so much better.

On PTI yesterday they were asking, "Will anyone hang around to watch The Who?" Interesting question.

Mucky Tundra (8-May) : According to reports, Mel Kiper is furious that Sanders wasn't selected as the new Pope
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Time taken to get picked:
Zero2Cool (8-May) : New Pope: 2 days | Shedeur Sanders: 3 days
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Collin Whitchurch @cowhitchurch · 1h Chicago got a pope before it got a QB to throw for 4,000 yards in a season.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : New Pope from Chicago; in other words, the city produced a Pope before a 4000 yard passer

Martha Careful (5-May) : Yes, in the military S2’s work on IPB, PERCEC, PHYSEC and IO
dfosterf (4-May) : FYI civilian companies swipe the S2 designation from the military. S2 is the intelligence branch up to brigade level. G2 is division level.
dfosterf (4-May) : Google it. Make sure to tack NFL on it or you will get the military meaning
Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
beast (4-May) : In theory, the S2 test how quickly a QBs brain can solve game like issues and how quickly they can do it.
dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.
beast (4-May) : NFL really needs to fix their position labeling issue, but I don't think they care
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Packers did not activate the fifth-year options for linebacker Quay Walker, with the goal of signing him to a contract extension.
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Matthew Golden spoke with Randall Cobb before draft. Looked like chance encounter.
packerfanoutwest (1-May) : from a head left turn?
packerfanoutwest (1-May) : someone drunk?
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Unlikely.
dfosterf (30-Apr) : How long until Jeff Sperbeck's family sues John Elway ?
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : Packers are exercising the fifth-year option on DT Devonte Wyatt, locking in a guaranteed $12.9M for the 2026 season.
beast (30-Apr) : Sounds like P Luke Elzinga has a rookie try out opportunity from the Titans
dfosterf (30-Apr) : Luke Elzinga Punter Oklahoma stil unsigned. Green Bay has been mentioned as good fit
beast (30-Apr) : The Packers re-signed three exclusive rights free agents WR Melton, P Whelan and RB Wilson.
