FBI Reports Huge Decrease In Murders As Firearm, Ammunition And Large Magazine Sales Soar

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Last week, the FBI issued its preliminary 2009 crime report, showing that the number of murders in the first half of 2009 decreased 10 percent compared to the first half of 2008. If the trend holds for the remainder of 2009, it will be the single greatest one-year decrease in the number of murders since at least 1960, the earliest year for which national data are available through the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Also, the per capita murder rate for 2009 will be 51 percent lower than the all-time high recorded in 1991, and it will be the lowest rate since 1963a 46-year low. Final figures for 2009 will be released by the FBI next year.

According to gun control supporter dogmamore guns means more crimethe number of privately owned firearms must have decreased 10 percent in 2009. To the contrary, however, the number rose between 1.5 and 2 percent, to an all-time high.

After living in the US for 35 years and now having lived in the UK for the past 2.5 years ...

I have this to say ... Guns are a problem in the US.
too many guns - the old argument that was drawn up ... when during the revolutionary war? the right to bear arms? - which has led to the mass proliferation of guns.

not that the UK doesnt have its share of problems - heck their punishment system is a joke and effectiveness for preventing crime is a joke. Crime in london is abhorent (for the city with the most CCTV cameras in the world).

I cant answer what should be done about what I consider a proliferation of guns in the states.

I'd take the additional gun murders with the Freedom guns give us any day of the week.

English "Rights" are a joke. You guys are even bad for European countries, and that's pretty bad. Orwell was right. Today's England is proof of it.

little off topic ... but my rant on some of the wrongs I see with english society ...

- children drinking on the streets/trains/whereever and nothing is done about it.

- society glorifies knife crime and its quite common

- the punishment system; ya what punishment. Cant spank your kids (ya you heard me). They dont 'believe' in the whole spare the rod spoil the child thing ... but they dont understand why there are monsters wondering the streets in gangs.

- crime - again london is filled with crime. Weather this is from the mass immigration from all sorts of countries or from their lack of punishment and control (or all of the above) who knows ... its a problem.

- growing up in kenosha wisconsin (where there is a bar on every corner); I read/heard that wisconsin is known for their alcoholics/drinking etc ...
britain has us beat pretty handedly. There are always people in the pubs here.

ok rant off ... I could rant about some things in the states ... I'm not biased 😉

One could argue that, in fact, America is under-armed.

Contrary to the argument of both anti-gun and most pro-gun advocates, the biggest reason for an armed citizenry is protection against state power. The biggest need for guns is not to protect us from robbers or bandits, much less to ensure us the right to wild game on our dinner plate. The biggest need for guns lies in that "well-regulated militia" phrase.

The gun control people have co-opted the phrase, arguing that it's referring to groups like the National Guard. Which would be amusing in its stupidity, were it not for the fact that it's now become received wisdom in high school history classes across the nation. The militias were formed because of the tyranny of George III. The notion that a group, paid for by the state, mobilizable only upon the order of the state, is somehow adequate to protect the citizens from state action? It's just silly. The Bill of Rights was not a listing of rights of the state. The Bill of Rights was a listing of rights held against the state.

I like Britain. A lot. But Britain is a country where everyone's life is transparent thanks to millions of cameras everywhere. Everyone, that is, but those working in various public ministries and in the offices of those executing the police power. A country without a Bill of Rights but with an Official Secrets Act.

It's a risky combination.

Me, I'd rather risk a mugging or drive-by shooting or household accident or shopping center massacre, than risk that check on the exertion of state power.

But that's me.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I agree with Wade.

The one thing that drives me nuts is when people talk about hunting uses for guns.

I own a lot of guns. Only a few of them I use for hunting animals. The rest I use for defense against PEOPLE, which are my greatest threat. No, it's not paranoia. It's called HISTORY and time and time again, governments get too much power, the economy goes bad, scapegoats get named, then certain groups are taken off and killed.

How many times has this happened in history?

Do I really need to answer this?

I don't exactly look like the average American. Wrong skin color. Hair too long. Glasses (heck, that was a reason for execution in Cambodia). Etc.

I'm sure any one of us though can too be singled out for being less than normal when the economy falls to pieces.

So the true reason for gun ownership has to do with protection from foreign invasion (ask the Japanese Generals what they REALLY thought when they invaded America in WWII. Or heck, ask the Swiss how many times they've been conquered or just watch the video below), tyranny, and lastly, protection against crime. The crime element is part of it, but it's only #3.

Here's the Swiss video:

Wade and Zombie got it right.
I can't understand why too many "guns" is a problem. It's NOT the gun that causes the crime, it's the scum bag that uses a gun to commit a crime.
I let people KNOW i keep a loaded gun in the house. And that if someone tries to break in, they WILL be shot. Several times. If it means me, or a criminal, guess who they will be carrying out?
I'd rather be judged by 12, then carried by 6.
Dulak......you yourself admitted that crime is bad over there. Yet they don't have guns. So.....what REALLY is the problem? Once again, it's the PEOPLE that have NO respect for others. A knife obviously kills as well as a gun.
The anti gun people don't give a damn about us being shot by criminals. All they want is to do is disarm us. Once again, more control over us if we are disarmed. Our founding fathers left England for many reasons, and that was one of them.
You may go your entire life without needing a gun. But need it ONCE. and not have it, and you will wish you had not given up that right as an American.
Like our country having nukes. They have them so that we DON"T have to use them. If we didn't have them, we would be easy pickings for nut jobs like the leaders of North Korea and Iran. Having them keeps THEM from attacking us.

So, because the Constitution/Bill of Rights is outdated, we can interpret it to mean back in those days. Where is that line drawn? How many other Bill of Rights do we 'amend'?

I wonder how you got your opinion on guns/gun control. I know the English aren't fans, so obviously there's going to be bias (especially in their media.. Hell, even in the movie 'Hot Fuzz' they make the hero of the story into an anti-gun nut). And the main stream media here is pretty much pulling for more gun control/regulation.

The study the FBI did is the real story. And I'm willing to bet that it didn't get the light of day in the mainstream media here.

Yeah, that must be it. They don't care about people being shot by criminals, they only want their own government to have more control over them.

They go hand in hand with the democrats who want to turn America into a communist nation and dance on the declaration of independance and bill of rights. With everyone under 25 year old who's just having sex with every random person he/she meets on the street and has absolutely no respect for anyone over the age of 25.

Sometimes, I wonder how dark the world must look from your perspective.
