This bill will likely be passed in the dead of night on Christmas eve. It is so scary that no one even knows the entirety of the bill yet. I guess one amendment is being read on C span right now and that should take the next 7 hours or so.

The decision is actually passed on to the state. At least they're only pissing on state rights, not pissing, dumping, and setting them ablaze. Although I wonder how long that'll last for.

every single politician is a crook. every pharmaceutical company, every insurance company, every person who faked workmans comp claims, & every person who went to the emergency room for a paper cut are to blame for the disaster the medical insurance in the u.s.a. has become. i have no f'in clue how to fix it because until people & companies become honest, it'll never work!

Remember, people, this bill still has to go through conference committee. More changes will probably be in the offing.

Also, insurance company stocks have skyrocketed since this bill was proposed. This plan will screw healthcare providers, clinics, and hospitals, but it's going to be a windfall for the insurance companies -- and investors have understood this since at least June, when the insurance-stock bubble started.

I agree on most of these points, and we're just shifting control from one near-monopoly (health insurance companies) to the ultimate monopoly (the federal government). If you can't make things better, don't make things worse by changing for the sake of changing.

I think that's an idiotic investment to make. Any company whose fiscal decisions are strictly regulated by the government (80% of premiums have to go to medical care, 85% in some cases) without leeway is not a company that is dynamic, flexible, and capable of long-term growth.

Also, weren't we hearing earlier about all these town hall types that actually let their representatives know what their constituents wanted were just sent by the health insurance lobby? Who's really in bed with them if there's really all this money to be made by the health insurance companies? Now the rallying cry is "millions will die if we don't pass this!".

The same old tune as the last 3 times this shit has gone down, ignoring the decrease in quality of care (I don't care what you say, injecting millions and millions more people into the existing health care system is not going to increase quality of care), penalizes you for deciding that you don't want to pay for health insurance, and generally just gives more and more reach to the federal government. At what point does the federal government have too much say in private industry?

A final point I'd like to make - I'd be all for healthcare reform on this level done on the state level. There is more accountability on the state level, more attention to the people of YOUR community on the state level, and if your state institutes a healthcare/health insurance law that you don't like, it's a lot easier to up and move to another state than it is to move to a different country.
