The first of his questions touch on 1) a desperate Steelers team 2) on 10 days rest 3) playing at home.

Packers fans are feeling pretty good about their team right now. After a sluggish 4-4 start, Green Bay has won five straight. Steelers fans, on the other hand, are feeling mighty low. A 6-2 mark has melted into a 6-7 nightmare that has the team on the brink of elimination.
But as the folks with the triangular foam hats begin to make their way into Heinz Field on Sunday, they should keep in mind that the roster largely consists of men who made it to the top of the mountain a year ago, men who have recently seen their pride trampled. Men who are feeling desperate to prove that they're the same men they were a year ago.
So while the very best that the 2009 Steelers can muster might not be enough to forge a spot in the playoffs and, ultimately, a ride from the No. 6 seed to the Super Bowl, they're good enough to find a way on 10 days' rest to beat any team that invades their turf.
And who knows? If they can get into the postseason, maybe they can do what the 2005 team did by winning three games on the road and then taking virtually all of Pittsburgh to Detroit for Super Bowl 40.

90% of that logic applies to the Steelers last week vs. Cleveland though, PLUS the added motivation of making it to the playoffs, which really isn't there this week.

This game is unpredictable at best.

I just saw a short profile of Kevin Greene on NFL Network, they talked to Dom, Darren Perry and Greene, all ex Steelers coaches and players. I think these guys will help focus our team on the task at hand and might have a bit of inside information on how to control these guys. It doesn't hurt that Troy won't be playing either!

Bah.

Just make sure Driver gets 100+ yards receiving. We win 5 out of 6 times that stat occurs. :thumbright:

In all seriousness, their best defender won't be playing. I'd rather beat them with Troy in there as it makes us look better.

I don't care how we look. I just want to keep winning. I like the edge our coaching staff gives us with understanding the nuances of Steeler football, but I think the biggest thing we have going for us is Polamalu's absence, and I'll take it!

6 games out of 48 where he had 100 yards is hardly a trend my friend. :P

There best defender will be playing, his name is James Harrison. 🙂

In my opinion, there's no way that James Harrison is their best defender. I think Polomalu is their best by far.

I don't care WHO we play against. I just want a win!
We need to make it to the playoffs, and whoever is in the way, we need to beat.

I'll play devil's advocate:

1) The Steelers are reeling from injuries. Besides Polomalu, the Steelers have lost probably the best 3-4 DE in Aaron Smith. Before the injury, in the first five games Smith played, James Harrison had recorded 6 sacks. Since, in the last 8 games, Harrison has 4 sacks. The Steelers have problems with injuries and some of their vets are losing steam late into the season (see Hampton, Casey).

2) The Steelers are a team reeling. The NFL is a 'what have you done for me lately' league, and as such what matters more than previous season is what you have done lately. Confidence matters, and going on recent developments, the Steelers just shouldn't have much of it. It's like last year, where the PAckers had some talent but it became a situation where you expected them to fall short late in games - a sort of 'how (not if) will the Pack lose this one' type of deal.

3) Mike McCarthy is returning home. He will be pumped. If we can learn anything this season, its that the players respect and want to play for MM. It's saying something that the players did not tune out McCarthy after the Bucs loss. It says even more that Barnett presented McCarthy with the game ball after the Cowboys win, and basically gave him props for taking a lot of heat off the players onto himself.

Point is simple: Packer players respect their coach. I'm sure McCarthy wants to win going back home, and playing in front of family. I'm also sure that the players realize this. I would not be surprised if the players are playing to win this game for their coach. Add to that Capers going back, and you've got the potential for a highly motivated team playing to win for their coaches.

4) McCarthy mentioned that this team's target after the Bucs loss was to win 10 games - because that is what McCarthy believed would land them in the playoffs. Well with 9 games, they are almost there. With the Pats vs Cowboys on Saturday, a Cowboys loss means that the Pack can clinch a playoff spot.

Taking the field on Sunday, the Packers may well know that they win and they get in. Again, another huge motivating tool for the Packers.

I don't buy this 10 day rest crap. We are the Packers, not the Bears, not the Lions, not the Browns, not the Bucs, not the Bills (you get the point). The Packers are a playoff team and as long as they come out and realize that, the Steelers have no chance.

The Steelers have crumbled and have shown that one man holds that defense together. Their offensive line is worse off than ours at the moment. Expect big things, its not being optimistic as the Steelers have become a bad team.

The past is the past, who gives a crap if they were Super Bowl champs LAST YEAR...a lot goes on from then till now.

Go Pack.

Zero2Cool (16h) : Merry Christmas!
beast (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (24-Dec) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
