One year without a CBA could really help us with our multiple free agents.

But for the good of the game I hope they sort something out for 2011.

I have to cherish these small victories.

I get to start the odd thread, but it means Monday Night Football results in me going to bed at 5am.

(This week I got three hours sleep from 10pm-1am then got up, watched the game, and squeezed in a couple more hours before work. It's fun though, keeps me feeling like I'm at college).

Cheers!

Something the article sdeosn't mention is the ownership factor.

Some owners live off the profits (Chicago's McCaskey family) that the team generates. They are less likely to spend to the top of the cap as it takes money out of their pocket. Without out a cap they are still unlikely to spend the maximum as the return (Super Bowl) is not guaranteed and it has been proven that spending less and finishing "2nd" is more profitable for an owner than winning championships.

I think the start of this article, as with many articles about the CBA, is inaccurate. I think both the owners and the players association realize that getting an agreement done is beneficial to both sides. Sure, they aren't agreeing right now but they've seen what's happened to the MLB and they don't want to see their league deteriorate in the same fashion. Trust me, I have no way of knowing what the people in these situations are thinking but I am almost positive a deal will get done before the March deadline. There's just too much on the line.

In fact, one of the biggest issues for the owners is how much players are getting paid; owners believe players are gathering much larger paychecks than they deserve. Having no cap would definitely harm the owners in this aspect because players would ask for even more money than a cap allows--and people like Dan Snyder would be happy to pay it. Mark my words a CBA will get done, it's just going to take a lot of time and effort from both sides. And it will probably get as close as possible to the deadline.

I agree something will probably get done but when a guy as connected as Andrew Brandt says he thinks a deal will probably not get done then that is something to bear in mind.

You're a fine poster but Brandt works for the Eagles and spends all his time in NFL circles. He said he expects something to get done by 2011 but at the moment doesnt see anything getting sorted by March.

I also dont think that there is much to lose in 2010 without a cap. The NFL will stay pretty similar, free agency will be limited and owners may use it to cut costs for a season and readress their debt levels.

Then something gets done to prevent a work stoppage in 2011.
