No one asked me either, but that not only does not stop me, it doesn't even friggin' slow me down :thumbleft: .

One aspect of ANY of these types of conversations that I find a little irritating is the preconceived notion that Ted Thompson is somehow acting autonomously. If I (or anyone else) were to try and bring up the concept that these decisions are arrived at via the filter of a collaborative analysis of the entire staff...

For planning purposes, I will expect and anticipate the, "Well, he is the GM, and he is ultimately responsible" speech.

But then you go back and read one of these threads, and there is no mention of a defensive backfield coach, or a special teams coach, or the scouts that are looking at other team's personnel, or .... any of it. You know...the, uh, STAFF.

It's all Ted.

It's mostly wrong... probably.

I'll wait until the off-season to fight that battle, too.

It is silly to think Ted Thompson walks into the room and says "well, it's time to cut people so here is what I have decided to do." Once the personnel is assembled (with much imput from the coaches) the cuts are largely made based on discussions with McCarthy and staff on which players are showing the most and who fits best in what they want them to do.

At that point when cuts are made you can bet the MOST weight and the most imput is coming from the coaches side. They are the ones evaluating the players from the day they step on the field, not Thompson. Thompson makes the announcement but the decision was made out of McCarthy's office.

To look at what some players do on other teams is rediculous because most often that scheme is much different than ours. We can't use a 5'-6" RB on third down when we ask them to block blitzing LB's as often as we do.

These coaches have WAY MORE material to work from regarding these decisions than any of us here and I give them credit for sticking with what they feel is best for the team. I am certain there are players they bite their fingers over because the KNOW they can play but they just don't fit the system quite as well as someone else. That's when the decision is tough.

This is how it works. Teds job is to get talent to the team. After that point who stays who goes and who gets on the field is all McCarthy and the coaching staff. Ted does not make that type of player decision
