I know I do. And I'm a Ted Thompson supporter. Dude brought in BeefyBJ, Cwood, Clay Matthews and Rodgers.. but sometimes he makes me wonder why he cuts certain people.

The Packers cut Anthony Smith which was totally unexpected and he was immediately claimed off the waivers. Today he had an INT and a Tackle ( I know his pick was thrown by Rex Grossman.. But I'm trying to make a point!)

Then Tyrell Sutton got some work with 6 carries for 38 yards with an average of 6 yards a carry. Sutton was cut in favor of Deshawn Wynn

Tracy White was cut last year in favor of Danny Lansanah or whatever and on sundays game he lead the Phillidalphia Eagles in tackles with 4.

Then there's Aaron Rouse who had 10 tackles and a Sack. He was cut during the season and was replaced with Matt Giordano.

Not trying to be negative during this time of positivity but I couldnt help but notice the impact of packer cut'ees in week 13.

You wonder because you take it for face value and you don't try to put yourself in the shoes of a GM trying to fill out a roster for offense, defense and special teams while maintaining depth and not releasing someone who has not hit their ceiling yet.

No one is perfect at it, so why continue threads like this? Oh, I know. Because even after winning our fourth game in a row, we still have to whiny bitchy fans who can't appreciate a win.

The Giants had Rouse playing up at the line of scrimmage, where he is best. The Packers had him playing a more conventional safety position, which he was not very good at. Considering that the Giants are using Rouse so well, it's too bad the Packers couldn't have at least gotten something in a trade.

I was okay with Rouse being cut, but I agree with you on White, Sutton, and Smith. A lot of fans questioned those cuts at the time. With Smith there were rumors of character issues, but not so with the others.

By the way, you are forgetting Thompson's worst cut ever: Jon Ryan. He's in the top half of the league, punting for Seattle, while we are already on our second lousy punter since he left.

Ted has had his share of head-scratchers, alright. But if the team has a good year, I suppose we can't complain too much.

Sure is being a GM when you have hindsight isn't it? Incredible how people forget what was happening at the time of these players being cut.

World is just full of perfect GM's and the 32 in the world don't know squat.

White was no longer improving.
Sutton I THINK they thought they could hide him on the PS. Try to think of the injuries we had at RB at that time too. When you think, it does make sense.

Jon Ryan was cut because he was too inconsistent. He could boom one 70 then 17. Trying to improve the position was the right call, the replacement was the bad part.

Smith, I'm not touching that one again.

To answer the question. Yes, I do. DURING THE OFF SEASON.

(Yes, this topic, the timing of it ... irritates me to great new levels)

It didn't strike me as a mean-spirited post, although the thread could easily go in that direction. An important thing to remember is that these are all marginal players. Hitting paydirt on a really good player, like Clay Matthews, more than makes up for all of these relatively minor misses.

But I do think it's interesting sometimes to ponder what the thought process is in getting rid of players who end up doing better with other teams.

I don't even have a problem with players who end up doing better with other teams. I mean, with Rouse for example, he made a lot of tackles for NY this past week playing up near the LOS, more of a freelancing linebacker than a defensive back. Could the Packers have figured out that he would excel in this type of role? Probably, but there isn't room for that type of role in the scheme. We already have 4 linebackers, we don't need to bring in a defensive back as an extra LB. Quite the opposite actually, as one of our sub-packages has a LB playing defensive back (Chillar in the Big Okie package). Square peg. Round hole.

Dude I'm by no means bitching.. I just think it's interesting to see how these players that we all complained about getting cut early on end doing down the road. Im a Ted Thompson supporter and am not looking to open up a firetedthompsonnow website

He drafted 3 starting rookie defensive players that perform for the love of God I know hes doing a good job at GM'ing

Sometimes a player isn't suited to a particular scheme or team. Sometimes they don't want to play where they're at. Sometimes they're nursing an injury you don't know about. Sometimes they develop a synergy with other players at their new team. You never know why a player performs better in one location than another. It's not worth losing sleep over.

You point to statistics as a way to gauge players abilities. The only mistake I see him making was trying to fit Sutton on the practice squad.

If you have actually watched the games the stats don't line up with how the guys are actually playing. Rouse has had 27 tackle in the last three games but it's because the Giants use him as a second linebacker. In our system he had to do a lot of a coverage which he is terrible at.
