Tom Pelissero, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers CB Trevor Ford signed a three-year contract with base salaries of $310,000 (2009), $395,000 (2010) and $480,000 (2011).

they must see some potential in Ford. hope they're right. the Packers may end up having to pay for Jarret Bush's mental lapses when playing teams other than the Lions.

alls I know I wasnt impressed with ford or underwood (and did we have a guy called porter) ... in preseason. All those guys functioned like guys I wouldnt want covereing opposing wideouts in the NFL.

Were you impressed with Tramon when he first played? Or Collins? I'm not trying to pick on you but these are signings based on potential. They may be raw but they obviously have talent that the Packers management believes in.

I agree. And I think that we're taking a great approach to our corner situation. We're blessed with some amazing corners and we're grooming a huge amount of young guys on that position, right now. The perfect way to go. When we're really in need of corners, we can fill that gap with a first rounder, but we're really in a luxury position right now.

That's actually the approach that Ted takes towards nearly every position (Rodgers, Williams, Finley, tried with the O-line, etc.). A lot of teams do, as well, but I think that we excel at this.

I hope that we'll be able to just replace Woodson and Harris with UDFAs or 5-7th round picks down the road. We already have Williams. Underwood is showing some potential. He could be special. Especially if he bulks up a little.

Is anyone else at all puzzled with us signing a TE to the PS?

That would be our 4th. We have two solid starters and a 3rd who can play in all three phases of the game.

I'm not really sure the merit in using a PS spot for a #4 TE.

I suppose if they think he's special then bring him in. But I'd rather we grabbed a young RB, S, CB, OL who could conceivably fill a need for us this season or next.

6'4, 245, never been a very good receiver, but a pretty decent blocker... I don't know if we've signed a TE or someone who's a very, very raw OL pick, who needs a lot of work.

Then again, Spencer Havner did come out in a very similar manner, if I recall correctly. Maybe it'll be the end of Donald Lee soon. You never know.

I personally doubt its the end of D Lee, but if it is I don't see a guy who has remained a street free agent till December (and was cut by the awful Chiefs) as being the guy to knock him from his roster spot.

Okay, Rock, that was probably the stupidest comment you've ever made (joking) by saying that this may be the end of D.Lee. Why? Donald Lee and Finley complement each other very well.

Lee is the big guy that just sits on a check down while Finley goes deep over the middle. We have two big TE's that any DB would have trouble getting to the ground.

Also, I think they probably just got this guy on the PS so that in case of injury they could sign him to the active roster. I'm sure they like his size, and ability to block.

go.pack.go., I think the comment about Donald Lee's waning time in GB comes with the recognition that Havner and Lee are used in similar fashions. If Havner keeps getting more offensive snaps, it'd be superfluous to keep both Havner and Lee on the roster.
