So, Shanna and I get up at noon today, get cleaned up and head out to run some errands by 1pm. We needed to hit the bank and cash my check, run to Target/Fleet Farm so I can get a belt and steel toe shoes for work, and I was planning on taking her out to lunch after that. Keep in mind, she's got to be at work by 3:30pm.

She's listening to her voicemails while we are on our way to the bank and come to find our her timecard was denied. She's more of a contractor than an employee, so she's got to submit her timecard via the intarwebs. She does this Sunday nights. The reason it was denied was she didn't take her half hour lunch (she was never told she had to take them) and so she worked 8.5 hours on Monday. She had Thursday and Friday off, unpaid. Apparently her boss told her he denied her hours because she was supposed to work only 8 hours on Monday, not 8.5. So, he needed her to resubmit her hours to comply with his 'standards'. By this time, we just left the bank, and now we have to turn around and take the 20+ minute drive back home for her to resubmit her hours so she can get paid this week. Skipping the errands we need to run, and more importantly, our time together out for lunch.

2 things that pissed me off.. First off, the principle of she's working 8.5 hours and only getting paid for 8. I know, it's only half an hour, but she also told me about her co-worker who's always coming in early to fill in for other people, stays her entire shift, and only gets paid for 8 hours, instead of the hours she actually was there. I told her if it was me, I'd be out of a job, because I would reported that asshole and probably would have been verbally assaulting. lol Secondly, on OUR time, we had to scratch OUR plans in order to please some douchebag. That pisses me off even more. It's bad enough that my wife needs to ask another man's permission to take some time to hang out with me.. It's another thing to have said another man call her and tell her she's got to scratch her plans with me on OUR time to fix her hours, or she won't get paid this week. If it was in person, I would have busted that guys jaw.

Anyway, just had to vent.. I'm still pissed about this.

No mother-in-law?

Just kidding. That does indeed suck. There are a lot of companies that have some kind of shoddy management. The one I work for included. It's just that no one ever reports it.

Sucks all the same, though.

Typical.
Because of the job situation, companies figure they can screw over employees as much as they want. What can you do? Quit?
Who does that end up hurting, as YOU end up with no paycheck.
It sucks, and is a lousy way to run a business.
If i had to work 8.5 and was paid for 8, you can bet i'd find a way to screw around for a half hour. Thats B.S. that you are expected to work for free.

One time, at my last job, my boss (a real B**CH) was timing my bathroom breaks! Not kidding! I was getting over 100% on the job i was working on, so she had nothing to complain about. Besides of which i had a medical condition that i had a doctor's excuse to use the bathroom any time i needed. Anyway, our 30 minute lunchtime came. I went into the lunchroom......the BITC....i mean BOSS comes in and says "You took too much time in the bathroom. You used up your lunchbreak (which was an unpaid break anyway) You have to spend your lunch break working at your machine." I didn't leave, so a few minutes later she comes back "Do you think i was kidding???" So i got up, went out into the factory to my work station. Which was like 6 feet from the lunchroom door. I used a box to keep the door open, turned my work station chair around, and sat talking to my friends the entire 30 minutes. Never turned my machine on.
All the while the "boss" was watching me through the window in her office. I just smiled and went on talking. I was at my work station! LOL! She never did that to me again.
The day she was leaving for another job, she was bragging how she wouldn't have to work Saturdays anymore. (This was in front of the entire department) So i say as loud as i can "Since when do they close McDonald's on Saturdays?" EVERYONE breaks up at that. Then she starts again "They will even train me at their expense!" And i of course say "Whats so hard about "WOULD YOU LIKE FRIES WITH THAT"???
At that the entire place erupts with laughter, and the wicked witch storms back to her office, never to come out the rest of the day!

Yeah.. I just told her she should go in to work at 4 and clock in at 3:30.. Hey.. the door swings both ways, right?

That's the thing.. It's a good thing it's happening to her in a way because if it was me, I'd be out of work most likely. Of course, I'd go to my bosses boss and report it, but it would probably cost me a job.

Whatever. We'll get over it. I'll just have lunch alone today.

I'm sure they would... But not sure on how effective they'd be. Shanna's not an employee, she's a sub-contractor. I'm not sure the details of her contract, but I'm thinking she's pretty much at her bosses whim.

Still. She works, and she's not getting paid for her work.

See what they can do for you. At worst, you waste a few hours. At best....
