A staple for any offense on the road is to try and establish a run game.

As a relative newbie could someone explain why is it more important to get a running game going when you're on the road?

One of the biggest reasons is that it takes the crowd out of the game. It is hard to get your team fired up as a fan if you are sitting on your hands while the visiting team grinds your defense into the dirt. Call it the ultimate in momentum and emotion killers.

For me personally it would be to silence the crowd and I believe running plays are easier for an OL to execute with less call changes at the line. The call changes at the line could be hard if its loud.

Yeah I'm thinking players just get mentally out of it when you go to that... I say attack attack attack... and yeah that's high risk.... but it's also high reward IF the players get the job done and I think we have the players (well maybe not now in the DBs after the starters but everywhere else we got the guys IMO)

i agree, dont let a QB sit back and just pick his spot EVEN IN a so-called "Prevent D"...keep on attacking him and give him no time to throw or even go thru his reads....especially on a 3rd & long....

Yeah, on one of the TD passes (I think it was his first one), we rushed 3 people. Rushing 3 people should be against the law.

I agree.

What exactly do DCs think here? I mean, if you're up by two scores and your defense is out there with 50 seconds left in the game, I can understand that you drop 8 in coverage and keep everything underneath.

When you're up by 7 or something in the 3rd on 3rd and 15, I don't get why you bring just 3. In a 3-4, you essentially bring 3 DTs, with two of them maybe being a little more athletic. One in our case, in Jenkins. You should at least go with the standard 4 man rush like you'd do in a 4-3 defense. Bring at least one OLB.

My philosophy would be bringing 5 or 6. Let him get the ball of before he can get it deep. Leave the flats open. Drop the other 5 or 6 guys in shallow and deep zones.

Sure, a screen might get through every once in a while and you obviously shouldn't bring pressure every single time, but c'mon, rushing 3 obviously doesn't work.

Personally I think Harris baited on that play and saw what was coming. He was moving backwards before the snap and Crabtree did nothing to confuse him that he was going to the endzone.

Harris was there until the last step or so and it was a perfect pass just out of his reach. It was a play where the 49'rs were going to go with Crabtree one on one and hope he would win that one and he did.

I agree pressure there could have changed that outcome because any throw other than right where he threw that one does not end the way it did. I'm not sure how many 3rd and longs we have to lose before Capers figures out they need to do something other than the 3 man rush there.

Crabtree also pushed off on Harris. Someone in the chat mistakenly said it didn't happen, but watching the replay and reviewing the game. It was a push off. Should it have been called? I don't know, personally, I'd rather just let MEN play a MAN's game and quit with all the ticky tack flags.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
