Went back and watched the defensive plays again. Jones played alright and I am more than happy with him kicking Poppinga out of the backup spot. But he did not overly impress me. 7 tackles credited. 1 fumbled snap, 1 WR fell on a WR screen, 1 push out of bounds in coverage.

Jones was only covering twice, both times Crayton made the catch. One Jones was right on top of him, the second not so much but was able to finish with the push out.

Over all, Kampman is better in run support and getting pressure than Jones. Jones may have a small step on Kampy in coverage. As of now it is Kampmans spot and nothing has changed in that respect.

Was that Jones first game starting? He ended up with 7 tackles and despite allowing a few catches, he looked decent out there. Pretty good for a Rookie. I'd like to see him develop as a Packer.

Unfortunately...there might come a time where I, and many other Kampman fans will have to face the music with his departure. Kampman is Packers people and undoubtedly one of the biggest role models on the team.

I knew once the 3-4 was announced, Kampman would have to adjust or leave. I was actually shocked the Packers didn't try to do something with him before October 20th. I thought either the Packers didn't try or no team was interested to give up something for Kampman (I doubt this).

I don't think the Packers defense looked better because Kampman was out. Capers said himself it was easier to unleash the defense because the 'Boys abandoned the run. If Kampman was in, he would have been a bigger threat to Dallas' run game so they still would have abandoned the run and Kampman would have been unleashed. I believe the Packers would have had the same results, maybe Romo would be eating more grass.

Fans shouldn't get attached to players but it is easier said than done. I am a big time fan of Kampman because he is a true professional on and off the field. He is a tough s.o.b. and offenses have to worry as much about him as they do Jared Allen, when his hand is in the ground. I am all for keeping Kampman unless some huge offer (outstanding offensive lineman or a nice draft pick) comes along. Either way, if the Packers trade Kampman they better be getting the upperhand in the deal
I also wouldn't mind seeing Kampman bulk up and put his hand back in the ground if that is even a possiblity.

We got a really good game from the Dline. The 'Boys were supposedly going to handle our guys but like the announcer said we have some big body's on the inside that matched up well with them. They not only got penetration but were in on several 0 and minus yard runs.

I highly doubt not having Kampman there had anything to do with how Capers decided to go about this game. I think he knew he had to step it up and put in some things to slow Dallas down because they have a great offense.

The blitz's worked better IMO because the guys on the inside were winning their battles too which to me is the key because if they aren't moving people and penetrating the blitz probably isn't going to work. I feel we got good pressure and five sacks because the three guys in the middle worked over the 0line pretty good yesterday.

I would LOVE for Aaron Kampman to stay Pack for a long time because in the right team he is elite, one of the best as his sack numbers detail over the past couple of years.

However, in this scheme, the only way he seems a good fit is as a luxury 3rd down pass rusher - a luxury the Packers may not be able to afford - not necessarily because of Cap (next year should be capless anyhoo) but because the Packers need draft picks, and/or better players in certain positions, especially the offensive line, something which a Kampman trade can most likely provide.

Clay Matthews steady, coming to spectacular process coupled with depth at linebacker means he isnt vital anymore, not in this scheme.

I don't buy into the bullshit that Kampmans absence was the sole reason for our dominant defensive play yesterday though - we just looked hungry, vicious and bought great pressure.

Personally, i'd trade him for multiple solid o'lners or to a team who plays 4-3 and is in need of an elite defensive end.

And hopefully if he is in trade talks come this off season, this is the only decent reason to do so. And if we trade him for draft picks and the org goes for anything else other than a blue chip offensive lineman (LT specifically) I will be livid as shit.

I couldn't help thinking throughout this game that Kampman's ticket out of Green Bay may have been stamped today.

Same thing. I think we franchise him, and get at least something in return.

Kampman is a free agent after the season and the Packers realistically have two options. They can decide they dont want to pay big money to a guy who doesnt fit their system and let him walk, going with the much cheaper option in Jones, or they can put the franchise tag on Kampman and trade him to the highest bidder.

Besides two passes in one game, how much has kampman been thrown against? I can't think of other situations.

I don't know if he will be back next year. To me his is not a perfect fit for the 3-4. Neither are others doing very well in the system on other teams. Lamar Woodley is an example.

This last game was nothing to do with Jones play and more the play of everyone else. Barnett, Hawk and Matthews were getting crazy at the QB. Jolly Jenkin were having great games. We now have Bigby back full force, which is allowing Woody and Collins to make plays.

Kampman is doing much better in the system than I expected in the off season. Though people who expect him to have the same impact as he did in the 4-3 shouldn't hold his breath. Aaron is right on pace with other LOLB in the league on some pretty good defenses.

Though my guess is that he will be gone next year wanting to return to a 4-3 team. Because staying with us he should not expect the cash he could get, because his position is not going to be the headliner for the defense anymore.

The problem is Kampman's problems in coverage handicaps the way Capers can call the game. Green Bay has to do their best to disguise their coverage problems at OLB. It's not a coincidence that the Packers put on their best overall performance against a good quarterback without Kampman in this game. Certainly, Kampman is solid in run support (like you said) and obviously he's a good pass rusher too, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he's probably not a full-time player in this system.

Woodley, your example, had over 11 sacks last year in the same defense. Kampman has 2.5 right now. That quicker step makes a difference and clearly, Kampman is too uncomfortable right now, which is probably why he's not finishing the sack and just getting pressure.
