I couldn't help thinking throughout this game that Kampman's ticket out of Green Bay may have been stamped today.

Same thing. I think we franchise him, and get at least something in return.

That said, I think Kampman definitely makes this defence better. He is, however, not suited for the 3-4.

I said that the other day...

He will be tagged, then traded..If they dont tag him at least he will be picked up and the Packers get nothing.

Good game out of Jones, but I definitely need more than 1 game to know what he is or is not. I have worry about somebody that was behind Poppinga in the depth.

Looked promising, needs to work on his pass rushing. As long as Matthews keeps rolling around the QBs feet and getting sacks and pressure, what the other OLB does is not as important.

Just to clarify, I wasn't arguing that Jones is the future at that position. We haven't seen enough of him to know. I'm only saying that this game may have shown that Kampman is no longer an indispensible piece of our defensive lineup.

What I noticed is this.

We went with a lot more exotic blitzes. I think to cover up for Kampman not being in there and not having that designated DE/OLB. I don't think that Dallas was expecting that.

This was the 'playfull' defense that we saw in pre-season. A lot of unorthodox blitzing, people coming up from the secondary.

I don't think that Kampman is a real liability, I just think that Capers overrates him. Left without a choice, we brought multiple people. I just hope that we keep this going once Kampman does get back.

Well, if you know what the OLB is and is NOT going to be doing or going to be ABLE to do, you don't have to watch that area as much. If you don't know what's coming from the outside, it's harder to stop the blitz up the middle as well.
Dunno, but it was sure a hell of a lot more fun to watch.

I just think the defense demonstrated that they don't need him today, as much of a luxury as he might be, so the Packers might be tempted to get some kind of value for him in the off season instead of trying to continue wedging him into the 3-4 scheme.

Kampy gets alot of respect, because of the type of person he is. He's Packer people. BUT he does not fit this scheme. Ted Thompson will prevent him from going to the Queens, but he won't be on this team next year. I'd have traded him for a LT back in Oct.

Dude runs a sub 4.6 40. He's smaller but he's definitely got some potential.
I wonder what Jamal Reynolds would have been able to do in a 3-4.

Not knocking him, just haven't seen enough to know yet. Barbre has looked good in a game or 2.

I was surprised Jones was #2 with 7 tackles today.

I am looking forward to watching the game again and keying on his play.

It was a solid first game for the rookie Brad Jones, but I didn't see anything outstanding from him. Dallas's starting OT got knocked out in the first half, and Jones was still not able to generate much pass rush. He does look smoother in coverage than Kampman does, though--which isn't saying much.

Kampman will start when he comes back from his injury, but maybe Jones has passed up Poppinga, anyway.
