I honestly think a lot of guys simply don't take the test that seriously. They are scoring worse than the theoretical score one should guess from random guessing.

This is the truth behind the low scores. More than one guy coming out of college has blown the thing off only to have his score get out. Then out of embarrassment, he retakes it, takes it seriously, and scores higher. Frank Gore and Vince Young both scored 6s; Javon Walker had a 7. I seem to recall Walker taking it again, but I know Young took it again scoring around 16. Interestingly, offensive linemen on average score higher than any other position, including QBs.

Here's some samples of wonderlic questions:

Walter Football
Test Practice

Honestly I can see how this test might be useful to test general intelligence but for football? I just don't know.

EDIT: I just took the Walter football one and scored what would apparently be the equivalent of a 35. The time is really the hardest part, I only answered 16 of 20 questions. Although I am a bit drunk right now, I wonder how I'd do sober...

It's not so much an indicator of football acumen or predictor of a player's career. Dan Marino reportedly scored a below average 16, for example. It does allow a team's front office personnel see how someone responds under pressure. Can they focus on the test with the clock ticking. Scoring ridiculously low will throw up red flags because the player is either functionally retarded or was immature enough to not take it seriously. Neither of which is going to sit well with a team scouting you.

Proposed revisions to wonderlic... I'll go first.

Question 1.

You are a dumber than dirt athlete that was coddled your whole life, including obtaining a degree from some shit-box school in the SEC based largely on your 40 time. You are on special teams for an NFL team, making millions of dollars, and you are kicking off. As you are running down the field in coverage do you:

A- Stay in your assigned lane as per the coaching you have received ever since you showed up at training camp.

B- Wing it and use your superior athleticism and finely honed intuition in order to make an "outside the box thinking" play on the kick returner.

C- Ignore the returner completely, instead focusing on taking off the head of the asshole that cheap-shotted you your sophomore year in college.

D- Stay the fuck out of this whole special-teams bullshit completely, as the stupid coaches should have never put such a superior human specimen at risk by making him run downfield in such a minor role.

Totally. I was actually doubting that one. Then again, there's no reason to believe that he hasn't gotten that score. I mean, he doesn't act like an ass, gives good interviews etc.

One thing I was slightly surprised about was Ryan Grant scoring 26 (Pretty high for a HB), Nick Barnett 25 (Good player, but figured him to be around 18) and Greg Jennings 18 (Was sure that he'd be over 25 at least).

The one that struck me was Barbre at 11.

I also think it's interesting to speculate about the average scores of those professions not listed in Rockmolder's original post.

For example:
1. GM executive: 6
2. President of the United States: 5.
3. College professors: 3
4. Michael Moore: 2
4. U.S. Congressperson: -11.3
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

4+1 = 5 :P

And if you're wondering how a member of the U.S. Congress scored less than 0, they spend 2 months deliberating how best to change the test and spent millions of dollars of taxpayer money to research the results. The final bill that was signed by the president, thus changing the wonderlic test was 250 pages long and had a typo:
Final Score = -Questions answered right.3
