Another thing to add, the Packers are fourth in the NFL in yards allowed/game at 282.9, fourth in picks at 12, and in a 3 way tie for 11th in fumbles recovered on defense at 6.

The Bucs had two drives over 20 yards. TWO! One was 72 and the other was 53.

EDIT: Sorry it sounded like I was criticizing you. I'm actually agreeing with you despite the tone lol.

Great defenses find away to make stops even with their back up against a wall. The defense is better, but it could be playing at an even higher level. Dom Capers fits right into the stubborn mold of the McCarthy/Thompson regime. He refuses to play to the player's strengths. I think the 3-4 defense is great when the Packers have the right players to do it, but right now they don't. Not on a full-time base at least.

Mix it up. Run a little 4-3 so you can create more opportunities for Aaron Kampman to get after the QB. If the opposition runs 50 plays a game, Kampman should rush between 40-45 times a game. Right now, he's rushing between 25-35 times a game. That's unacceptable and not fair to Aaron Kampman.

More on the 3-4

The Patriots second-year linebacker missed three games after suffering a knee injury in the season opener, and even after making a game-high 12 tackles against the Dolphins on Sunday, he wasnt yet ready to proclaim himself 100 percent healthy. The kid has nonetheless made a huge impact, however: Quietly, Bill Belichick transitioned from his staple 3-4 scheme to a hybrid one with a 4-3 emphasis over the offseason never mind that he hasnt bothered to announce this publicly because he realized that Mayo, a pure middle linebacker, is already New Englands second-most important player. As Ray Lewis(notes) and Brian Urlacher(notes) complete the latter stages of their brilliant careers, Mayo and the Niners Patrick Willis(notes) are the heirs to their legacies as the games most feared monsters in the middle. If Mayo can stay healthy for the rest of 09, hell have a chance to complement Brady the way Freeney does Manning, and make the Pats a championship contender.

Belichick has done what Capers and McCarthy have failed to do. He's using his players on defense the way they should be utilized and building the scheme around their talents instead of just plugging players into roles they don't fit (i.e., kampman, woodson, harris).

If the offense was playing as well as the defense, we would be undefeated. Well, maybe a loss due to the shitty special teams.
I have no problem whatsoever with the defense.

Of TB's 38 points 7 were a blocked punt, 14 from two INTs and 7 from kick return to 10 or so. D has it's problems but it didn't lose the game against TB.

Sorry, I'm not buying it. The D can improve, but they're not bad, and they're certainly not the problem.

Maybe I just need to avoid this plce for a couple weeks. The constant negativity is going to ruin football for me.

Both the offense and the defense probably share an equal amount of the blame. With the exception of the Tampa game the offense really hasn't been putting the defense in bad positions. The special teams has been the worst of all units because the offense and the defense have made plays happen in addition to their fuck ups, special teams haven't. The defense was given a 28-17 lead in the fourth quarter and yeah the Bucs got a good return to get back into field position but they could have held them to a field goal and they didn't. They then let the Bucs march down the field to take the lead. Got fucked over on a bad call but you know they did in week 1 against chicago and the team rallied. The d could have held on 4th down instead of giving up the score, the offense could have come back to retake the lead. The letdowns are on all sides of the ball.

It comes down to consistency. If can get some fucking discipline and consistency we are a damn good team. You can see that by spurts in which we've dominated the Vikings or embarrassed the shitty teams of the league. The problem is we've also shot ourselves in the foot and in games against the Vikings or Cincinnatti or Tampa they made us pay for them.

beast (17h) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (17h) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (22h) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (22h) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (23h) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (23h) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (23h) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (23h) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here

Mucky Tundra (7-Aug) : Tbh, I can never tell the difference in speed unless it's completely shitting the bed
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Sure does feel like site is more snappy
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : found bad sql in database, maybe site faster now?
dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round

Mucky Tundra (2-Aug) : To this day, I'm still miffed about his 4 TD game against Dallas on Thanksgiving going to waste
Martha Careful (2-Aug) : Congratulations Sterling Sharpe. He was terrific and I loved watching him play.
beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
