I own a site that's invite only. It's definitely cordial and all the rules are follow, all the time. But there isn't much activity either (very few active members). It's always a balancing act.

Zero - I've told you this before but I'll say it again. This is the best Packers site I've ever been to. I used to feel that way about PF but this is better. So kudos for keeping it.

I like the idea of a small membership, but of the members, a lot of us post frequently and there are people (like myself) who have the complete inability to shut up.

I'm just glad this site isn't going anywhere. There was a post either earlier this week or late last week that got me concerned that it was.

If I can help in any way, let me know.

It's sad that you have to "police" the site. If you have 1000 members, probably 975 will be decent and have respect for you and other posters. It's just like in real life though, a few bad apples spoil it for everyone else. They think THEY are important, THEIR opinion is the only one that matters.
So they make it miserable for anyone else.
And to head this off so it doesn't have to get split into the "back alley", I'm not talking about you DD80.

Amen. It's a bit wacko from time to time, but then again anywhere that lets me pontificate and tolerates my bad jokes and non sequiturs would have to be.

I could care less how big the place gets/doesn't get. I'm just glad I got invited over.

But, as others have already said, the "other stuff" in your life, Zero, means more. Just do what you have to do, however you do it.

And don't apologize for anything you've said or done recently, either. It's your website. If you want to yell and scream and rant and vent and all the rest, feel free. You've earned the right.

I said this in a PM to Z2C, and I figured I'll say it here..

When expressing opinions, state your opinion and leave it at that. People will reply to your opinion. Let them. People will rip your opinion. Let them. The more you feed those that rip into your opinion, the more ammo you give them.

Let.
It.
Be.

We all are guilty of this. We all have to have the last say. That mentality has to stop, or you'll ALWAYS have arguments and flame wars. We all wonder how everything turns into a Favre vs. Ted/Mike.. That's how. We keep feeding the fire with our posts.

TIP: You don't have to have the last word/post in order to 'win' the disagreement.

In short.. DON'T FEED THE EFFING TROLLS!

Also, you don't have to say "That's just my opinion" or anything like that. Unless you're backing your post up with cited facts (e.g., statistics), we know it's just your opinion. When you qualify your post with a phrase like that, it looks like you're backing off of your views because you're afraid of hurting someone.

Just state what you think. Back it up if you can; if you can't, fine. No one has to agree with you anyway.

JMO, of course.

Somewhere in the original post Zero you mentioned how you want to keep the size of the group smaller.
I forgot to say it but I like the smaller size.

I have been in other groups (before PH so it is not like I have strayed.)
When I was gone for a day or two and came back there would be 8 pages of posts. I don't want to take the time to read all of them. Here there may be 2 or 3 pages and yet members of both sites are basically saying the same thing. (Favre is a tool. No I am sorry, it is Uncle Teddy.) The point is that I get to see both sides of an issue without :horse: Thanks.

Very good point, Formo. +1

All of us like to argue. All of us like to converse. But the two are not synonymous. The person who always has to have the last word, who always has to "win", may be a good "debater," but he/she is not a particularly good conversationalist. In fact, when it comes to conversation, such a person is generally a bore.

Among the things I like about PH is that this is, by and large, a place of conversations not of arguments. Oh, to be sure, each of us have hot buttons that set us off, make us argumentative and dig in for a war of attrition ("Favre" and "Thompson" for some; "offensive line" and, usually, "sideline reporters" for yours truly). And some of us have specific people who tend to hit hot buttons, too. But by and large this place is a place where people don't always have to get the last word, where it's much less about winning and much more about having fun together.

One clear indicator of this is how people use "attacks" ad hominem. People here call each other names. They remark on each others' character both in fun and in seriousness. But, at least in the three months I've been here, its rare that those remarks degenerate into the back and forth of bitterness and spite. And that shows both the maturity of those "conversing", and the wisdom of Zero and his staff.

I haven't posted as much as I might like, and I still haven't [strike]written[/strike] started the article I promised one of the (former) mods -- as for others, my "outside world" has been a bit out of control of late. But despite that outside world shit, and despite the occasional bit of flaming/trolling, I see this place very much as I saw it when dfosterf first told me about it -- a welcoming place for conversation.

FWIW....jolly good job!
