On the Bea: 4 downs about the Vikings
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel
Nov. 1, 2009 11:13 a.m.

Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press answered a few questions for us this week:

1. How are the Vikings different from when we last saw them a month ago?

Despite some lapses against the Steelers, the Vikings are doing a far better job of protecting Brett Favre. One of the key reasons is the improved health of All Pro left guard Steve Hutchinson, who missed two days of practice leading up to the Monday nighter because of a back injury. And while Bernard Berrian may or may not play, Sidney Rice is a different player now, with a ton of confidence. Clearly Favre's go-to receiver.

2. Who is the most underrated Viking?

LT Bryant McKinnie. He hasn't been to a Pro Bowl, so he gets lost behind all the other stars. But, with Hutchinson battling injuries, McKinnie has been a monster, particularly in run blocking. He appears to be finally utilizing his freak-like athleticism.

3. The Packers should be worried about the Vikings' what?

Pass rush. Aaron Rodgers went down eight times last time, and the Vikings are going to bring the heat again. They expect the Packers to do more to block Jared Allen. But Kevin Williams is playing at a ridiculously high level right now, Pat Williams is coming off his best game, and Ray Edwards is doing a solid job. He could be the x-factor for the Vikings in this game.

4. Vikings will leave Lambeau with a win if...what?

If the offensive line, tight ends and running backs can give Brett just enough time. They did an outstanding job of hurting the Steelers, despite constant blitzing. The Packers don't have the same personnel, so if they can provide similar protection, they should win.

I agree with most of what Bedard said, but saying that the Vikings should win if they give Favre enough time, that's oversimplifying it quite a bit.

on the nfl network they said farve was sacked 9 times the past 2 games (18 total this year).

funny how they try to ignore certain stats and 'twist' things to make it appear a certain way.

Yeah, it's the Queens pass rush that won that game. Or rather our protection that lost it.

That concerns me. I hope we don't rush him back too soon and prolong a nagging injury. Maybe they'll use him mainly as a decoy. Or maybe the severity of his injury was overstated all along.
