I agree with the above, this whole talk and we're going to do this and that doesnt mean anything to me until i see Gregarious or Donalrious or Finlarious or Jonesarious or Nelsonraious score TD's off slants/screens etc...im just sayin

Another thing to remember...

When our intermediate game is clicking on all cylinders, as Defense's start to try n take that away, it makes the double move very effective and that should unleash the deep passing success we saw in the Preseason.!

Wait, I thought that nothing could be taken from the preseason. ;)

Yes, yanking your chain.. if you can't take positive individual performance from the preseason.. then those exciting well executed plays shouldn't be used as well.. since you know it was the "preseason". ;)

Haha, yeah you may be right but what I mean is we can have the same type of deep ball/Offensive success we had in the Preseason IF we make some minor, yet very important, changes to our Offense.

I also agree with the sentiment that "we'll believe it when we see it" BUT these are changes that HAVE to be made if we want to keep our franchise QB off the IR and I think Mike McCarthy realizes that. If this talk of getting back to the basics is indeed hogwash then you can kiss our season goodbye because there's no way we are going to have any type of sustained success if we are living and dying off the deep ball.

Glad you seen the humor in it..

While there are things in preseason that are meaningless, there are lots of things that can be learned and utilized later in the season. That is beyond player evals.

But I agree with you.. speed the routes up and allow the receivers to make plays beyond our oline issues.

I think we have to decide what we are going to be on offensive? Or more so, what can be effective with the blocking issues we have.. tighten up the playbook into quick rhythm type plays, until the defenses back off a little and have to focus on our successes....

Short rhythm passes and screens would come to mind first.. quick hitting power runs would be second.. as we seen in 07.. once the defense starts to either squat on those short throws or dropping people into short zones.. then go over them.

Additionally quick rhythm offense disheartens a pass rush late in games, where they bust their tails off only to see the ball gone early.. they are less motivated than say a Odom, Little, Ogenulye, or Allen that had sack success early.. it plays more into the game than people give it credit..

Sure we can learn from the preseason.

Problem is our stupid opponents, opponents who refuse to run their vanilla schemes in the regular season.

Ha Ha.

Actually, Packers going back to the Sterling Sharpe offense is just what Rodgers needed. He may stil get sacked but he won't be getting sacked by holding the ball too long.

Besides, I think they should put in more plays where Rodgers actually does some running with the ball.

I don't understand the logic behind telegraphing to our opponents a possible change in offensive strategy.

They CAN rebuild the quick slant...they have the technology. It shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!

It can do nothing but help. 14-2 lookin' pretty good right about now, eh?

Why did it take 2 losses and 20 sacks for this to be recognized?

Mike McCarthy is not known for making quick adjustments unfortunately.

I also hope Mccarthy, for the first time in his tenure, decides to STICK WITH THE RUN for more than 1 or 2 games. With Brandon Jackson coming back, we need to run the ball early and often, could you imagine how effective this pass Offense could be if teams start respecting the run a little bit more? I remember during the 2003 season when Ahman Green was nearly unstoppable, our PA was just as unstoppable. The Eagles respected the hell out of our running game in our playoff matchup and that's why Favre was able to hit those 2 deep TDs to Ferguson. So please Mike, stick with the run, even if it's not working at first!

This was also my first thought, but then again a lot of journalism gives away things I would like to remain hidden until it happens. But then again what would I do to get my packers fix during the week if I didn't have these articles to read?
