From a chat with Vikings beat writer Chip Scoggins.

Chip Scoggins: Favre said after the game that this might be the best team he's ever played on. Obviously it's still early, but you can see he has developed a nice rhythm with all his receivers. The throw down the sideline to Rice was a good example. He placed that perfectly on his back hip/shoulder.

This might be somewhat standard with Favre, but it just really struck me the wrong way. If I recall correctly, he played on some team with Reggie White, Desmond Howard etc. One of the best defenses in recent history combined with one of the best offensen and an amazing special teams unit and he goes out and makes a statement like this.

I don't mean for this to turn into a Brett Favre bash thread (Although seen the history of these threads, it'll be just that soon enough), but this is either very stupid, or he's really messing with this GB fans.

I wouldn't argue that statement too much. Packers never had a RB like Peterson. They have WR that can get open because of the attention to Peterson. They've had a great run defense for a long time now.

So, for the Vikings QB to say that, well, I don't much argue. The only thing they lack is coaching staff, but when you have that talent, even a bozo can coach it to win games.

My point is that this is damn right near disrespectfull. Our 1996 SB team had a better O-line, a better overall defense and better receivers. He now has a better RB and he crowns them the best team he's ever played with?

Does that mean that Jared Allen is as as good as Reggie White? Pat Williams is as good as Gilbert Brown? Visanthe Shiancoe is as good as Mark Chmura? Doug Evans, Leroy Butler, you get my point. Or does he make this statement based on Peterson alone?

I asume he didn't take in account the coaching staff, because Chilly can't touch Holmgren, Frazier's great, but no Shurmur and Bevell has a lot of work to do to be compared with Lewis.

Packers of 96 would put it too this team IMO.

The 90's and 70's were the best of the best. No doubt about it IMO. This decade has seen a drop of in talent, although you can start to tell that the next decade is probably going to be really good especially the level of play you see at the college level.

My point is the Vikings look great, but at the sametime, they aren't playing the 49ers, Cowboys, Broncos, Chiefs. They aren't defending Barry Sanders, Emmit Smith, or Steve Young and etc....

Favre will say things just to give a little confidence to his team. Like remember when he said in 06 about that team being the most talented he ever played on. He was full of crap and he knew that.

Now with that said do I think he believes that this is the best team he's played on? I do because this is the best team he's played on of most recently. I think it's probably fourth.

Although if you take Favre in his prime and put him on that team (Minnesota), then it's pretty close. Top three. Green Bay's coaching was phenomenal in the 90's and like the post above says, Minnesota's can't even touch it.

The 96 and 97 Packers teams were better than this Vikes team and possibly the 1995 packers. Other than that, I think Bretts right. They're balanced and consistent. I looked for a let down this week vs the Rams but it didn't happen. Shows maturity to me. This team should win 12 - 14 games depending on injuries and get home field. Brett isn't making the big mistakes like he did when he was younger so they should be in every game and I dont see a team that is much better than them if at all.

Favre cannot win.

How do we know that he didn't just say that to give the young guys like Sydney Rice, Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson, etc. some confidence? How do we know this wasn't a tactic of a guy who's been around the league for a while and using his leadership skills?

You don't think its going to help guys that have been in the league 1-3 years to hear "Favre thinks this team is as talented as the 1996 GB Packers".

I would bet a lot on Reggie White coming up to Favre at some point during 1995 or 1996 and telling him "your one or if not the best I've ever seen and I've seen Montana, etc". Why wouldn't you, it would mean a lot coming from a guy like Reggie White.

You're expecting sympathy for him right now, RedSoxExcel?

That's cute.

if he is saying it to give the guys confidence, is he being honest or lying about it?

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
